Alright, I'm pretty set to buy an avalanche tomorrow (that or a morpho), but before I make the plunge, are there any good similar knives I should check out? Also, how is the liner lock wearing on your Avalanches? Does the AO kill it quickly?

I have had the 440V version for several years now and have not used it heavily because of a tendency to sometimes snap open in pocket when the blade works open enough. Despite the light use, the liner lock has travelled quite a bit and is now more than halfway past the middle. And the Avalanche opens with much more impact than some of the newer models.

A few days ago, I got a Spec Bump. For what it's worth, I like it alot so far. It opens gently compared to the Avalanche it can be opened with the unique, ambidextrous thumb stud/spring loaded lock; Or it can be opened with the flipper located right next to the safety latch. That is my preferred way. The safety latch locks the blade closed but can be unlatched quickly to flip the blade. The safety latch on mine has some resistance in the middle of sliding on and off so it does not drift accidently.

For my medium sized hand, the ergonomics and grip of the Spec Bump beat out even the Avalanche.

Hope this helps.

Well, the bump is a great knife, the only problem is I already have one. Too bad to hear about the liner lock though...that's pretty dissapointing.

I had two, the 440V, and the S30V. Both failed the spine-whack test on hard surfaces. I love the knife and the design, but i must tell about the failures.
