Kershaw Avalanche broke, is this common?

The speedsafe in my Kershaw Avalanche broke. Kershaw has been most professional about it, so no complaints. I e-mailed them on Sunday, and today they told me where and how to send it. I was just curious if this is a common thing. When I opening it I heard a click like something broke (probably torsion bar), and now there's no more assisted opening. Anyways, I still love the knife and everything, just curious.

I have had mine for a couple of years now and it still fires pretty good for being more of a toy, I flick it open alot, than a user knife. I agree it is my favorite kershaw.

I had this too. I decide to keep it this way - removed torsion bar and keep it without speed safe. This is great knife by itself!

Thanks, Vassili.

i've replaced the torsion bar on my avalanche twice so far
each time kershaw warranty department has been outstanding in mailing me the torsion bar FOC
although i wish they'd just send me a couple at a time so i don't have to keep bugging them when it fails
btw, i'm sort of an OCD when it comes to flicking speedsafe knives out :)

Had my Blackout's Torsion Bar breaks once, Kershaw gave me directions to send it in promptly, and I had it back in less than a week with a replaced torsion bar aswell as a reground blade (I had managed to damage the tip of mine originally) and some fresh lubrication. Only cost associated with all this was me shipping it to them. Great service, but by the Torsion bar's very nature it is relatively common for them to break at some time (though how often, and the circumstances under which, you open the knife plays a factor in this wear)

I used to flick my Blackout open all the time, but now that I use it for work (I work as a Security Guard) it sees very little unnecessary opening and closing.

I've been using an Avalanche for about a year now. It works just as well as it did on day one. The knife feels very solid and there is no blade play at all. I think the Avalanche is a really outstanding production knife!

for a good four years, maybe five, with no problems. Still locks up nice and tight. Good knife for the money.
