I got an older kershaw avalanche and my question is are they all S30v steel. The pics I have seen all show the blade printed on the blade. Mine does not, just lists model 1570ST, a Us Pat No 6,145,202 and made in USA. Anyonr know if they have come out with a different generations? The clip is a little different. Anyone know any info on these?

I've only heard of them being S30V. Mine is and the model number is the same as yours. Mine doesn't have the patent number but it does say S30V.

Satin blade S60V Acalanches? Oh man, I never even knew about these. How many were made?

no satin, mine is the black blade does not have a born date just says model and pat. number and made in usa. The assisted opening works great. Not sure what the blade steel is?

draftpick - you Avalanche is S60V
Tony - can't say for sure, but they do exist - was it an LE run or just an very early
production - I don't know. Thomas W would be the one to ask.

I also have a couple more things that are different about my avalanche. the clip is different. The hole pattern is a triangle and has a hole to get to the pivot. The current pics I can find are in an arch, and no pivot hole. Also current pics are drilled for tip or down. Mine is tip down only. And lastly there is a metal disc in the middle of the knife underwhere the clip end touches the knife. Not sure what that Is for . I cannot see the disk in any of the current models. I hope that Thomas or Kershaw Guy can give me any info. I know that the avalanche was made around 2000. Did they make different generations?

Just like any knife - there will be some differences as years of production goes by.
Never heard of a counterfeit Avalanche. draftpick - chech your VM

I have an S30v Avalanche and it also has the disc underneath the pocket clip where it contacts the handle, I'm pretty sure they all do. Its actually an awesome invention. You can have insanely textured g10 like the Avalanche does but it slides in and out of the pocket nice and easy and doesn't rip your pants!

Wow...my only thought is "Why don't more G10 knives have this feature?"

That's a great idea.
