I was in the mall the other day, killing time till the wife's eyeglasses were finished. There's no cutlery shop in this mall but there was a Sears. I figured they must carry SOME knives, even if it's only the basics. Among the multi-tools they had a few slip joints and classic lockbacks. The one that caught my eye was the Kershaw. It was in a blister pack that was cut out so you could grab the handle. The finger grooves fit my hand like a glove. It was $40 and I didn't get it, but I'm still thinking about it because I've been wanting to try out sheath carry. I kinda know what to expect with Kershaw, I've had one of those little DWOs for over ten years and my wife has carried a Blackout for a while. I guess my question is this, how much are you willing to trade in edge retention for handle ergos? 440A isn't great, but it isn't 420J2. The nylon sheath can be carried horizontal or vertical. I'm pretty sure if I looked around I could find it cheaper. What do you guys think about the Black Horse as a relatively inexpensive way to try out belt carry for this old pocket clipper? Or would I be better served by a Gator or Bucklite? Thanks for any observations or experience.

I recently purchased a Kershaw Black Horse II, and put my EDC (Spyderco stainless Harpy) back in its case for a while. The Kershaw is a beautiful knife. Opens nicely, locks solid, no slop in the blade, and the ergo grips are beautiful. The downside, for me at leat, is the bulk. The knife is not heavy, but the form factor is a little large for my tastes. I quickly went back to my slim Spydie, clipped in my pocket. No regrets though, the Kershaw will proudly be displayed with the rest of my collection.

On more of a side note: I am more comfortable with the pocket clip. My father carries in a belt sheath. He immediately took to the Black Horse, and I have since bought him one. That is now his EDC.
