I'm fixing up a Kershaw Blackout that's in desperate need of help. It was lost out in the elements for a few days, and has rust all over the liners. I'm taking it apart for a thorough cleaning, but can't figure out how to remove the damned fastener at the butt of the knife. A flathead screwdriver fits into the notches in the fastener's "sheath", but turning the sheath does nothing--the "plug" just rotates with it. I assume I have to turn the sheath while holding the plug still, but the "tunnel" through the plug seems perfectly smooth; I can't seem to get purchase on it.

I've managed to rotate the two halves of the handle in opposite directions, which opens up access to the knife's innards, but I'm afraid it might be harder to get the pivot washers back in place this way.

Anybody know how to deal with this fastener? I've never seen anything like it before.

I have that same problem with the sleave rotating on the pivot of my leak. perhaps you should send it in. I heard kershaw has good service and support.

I took mine apart awhile back. I fabricated a tool by filing an old screwdriver bit so that it was a flat blade with two prongs, one on each end. I inserted this on one side while I believe I used a standard screw driver to hold the other side. I hope this helps.

Well, I'll be damned... I never noticed that the "cutouts" don't match on both sides. I assumed the "sheath" was one piece. I'll have to try that.

Thanks! Just the answer I was lookin' for :D
