kershaw blade angles

I've decided I should really get a sharpener for my growing knife collection instead of taking them to my knife shop for sharpening. My local knife shop does a great job but I have to drive there and gas ain't cheap. I've just about decided to get a Sharpmaker but I read somewhere that if the blade angles on the knives you are sharpening are large, the Sharpmaker may not work as well for you. Granted, I'm not able to define what large means in this context but I thought I should try to draw on the wisdom of the forum before laying down the silver for a Sharpmaker. I'm also up for suggestions on other sharpeners that are kershaw friendly. Thanks.

wag, most all of Kershaw's blades are right at 40 degrees, inclusive. The Leek, if I remember correctly is around 30.

The sharpmaker has preset angles of 40 and 30, so for touch ups, it will work fine. It comes with an instructional DVD, and all you need to do is to follow the instructions!

I asked this is a separate thread but let me try here too. The JYDII with CPM-D2 seems like it's much thinner than the usual factory edge. Any info on what angle it might be? I can't believe it's 40. Could be 30 primary I guess. I'm no expert.

Test em with a sharpie. I usually do this to all my EDC knives. The latest SG2 Blur I got was right at 30 out of the box, but others have been closer to 40. All of em were extremely sharp right out of the box, tho. It really doesn't matter to me because they all end up at 30 or less sooner or later!

Yeah, I like 30 also. That knife is just so much sharper than any other factory edge I've ever gotten... love to know what Kershaw's official line on it is...
