Kershaw's Echo and Outcast knives seem to me to be exceptionally good value (but my searches turned up no threads) , particularly the Outcast (big knife in D2!); the Echo also seems to be offered at a good price forAUS8. Also, I think they both look very pleasing (as you might expect with Ken Onion designs, IMHO).

Does anyone have either/both of these? What's the verdict regarding the usual parameters (durability. utility, ease of sharpening, edge retention, etc.)? Especially, is the (rather big) Outcast blade tough enough in D2?

I'm seriously considering these two, so I'd appreciate any input guys.

the echo is indeed a fine knife and i have two to prove it. one was a edc for about 6mo. when we first moved to a farm-ranch.All i did for that time was work to reclaim the land from mother nature.most with power tools and machinary. the echo was a constnant companion that did everything asked of it and more. abused the knife all the time and it never failed. only sharpened it weekly, well its still with me 2 sheaths latter and i even re ground the blade to 3" so when i go to town there's no hassle .i just love the way it fi s my hand! BEST $30 I ever spent!!!!!!!! Still have the 2nd NIB if this one ever gets lost.

Thanks Inspecto.

I sympathise with "i even re ground the blade to 3" so when i go to town there's no hassle " - I'm in the UK and the laws here regarding knives are even worse (no fixed blades 'without good cause', of which there are few): any locking folder is treated as if it were fixed (and so, illegal);

The best edc here is the (especially designed for the purpose by britishblades forum guys and Mr Glesser (bless him!) Spyderco 'UK Penknife'. in S30V (if only one knife is going to be legal and almost fully featured (but no lock), why not have ~(arguably, of course) the best steel available?~)

There are a bunch of good Outcast threads (Advance search in review thread) for you to look at.
