been wanting to do this mod on a jyd ever since i saw a vid of tuffthumbz doing it...
ive been a dirt poor bastard as of late and i finally mustered up enough monies for a blem from kershawguy.

choil added, batman clip reshaped and acid stonewashed = win, just wanted to share :)

Nice looking JYD. That combo blade (two steels) looks a little different from what I remember. Is that a newer one? Also, whats the emblem under the word Kershaw on the blade?

There were 2 different versions of the CB. One with a saw tooth pattern, and the other with a puzzle piece pattern.
 
whoa. I did this a while back, but yours looks better. I put standoffs in mine too.

thanks everyone, i was surprised how tough 14c28n was while dremeling in the choil. i did a similar mod on my zt 0550 awhile back and it didnt take nearly as long (see pic below). the choil fits perfectly onto the jyd with minimal edge loss. its as if it was meant to have a choil hah. next mod is lightly acid etching/stonewashing the blade, which i'll probably do when its needs sharpening. the etching should make the d2 edge really "pop" like it did on the puzzle patterned version :)

yeah there were 2 versions of the composite blade jyd 2's... i personally prefer the puzzle pattern and its etched d2 edge vs. the unetched sawblade pattern.

nice clip mod, may i ask where you got it? (usaknifemaker flat you bent yourself im guessing?)
 
yeah, bent it myself. Be careful acid-washing the blade. I did my Rake, and the CPM-D2 just got shinier while the 14C28N developed some pitting and I had to try and re-polish it. Didn't come out so good. You might have a better technique though, so your results might be better. I just cleaned the blade, masked the pivot and lockface with sharpie, then let it sit in the acid for about 30 mins, edge down.

I also did a little choil on my 550, but I completely removed that bit hanging down. Great minds think alike, mang!

haha thanks for the warning... hmmmmmm, may try just 5min or less in the acid bath

god i gotta do something about this clip.... anyone else with clip mod examples on the jyd 2?

That's rad bro! I like the JYD but they really need to include the choil on the stock ones and change up the clip. Good job:thumbup:
 
It looks alot better with the choil added than the original version. Almost makes me rethink getting one but don't like the clip and tip down only. You know though could be a fun mod project...

yeah, the clip has always been a killer for this knife...
i'll fool around with the newly reshaped chili pepper/tentacle clip in the meantime. i may send her out to be drilled/tapped for a standard 3 hole tip up pocket clip... may do it myself if i can muster up the funds hah.
