KERSHAW BLUR 1670TGRY

Surprised nobody has answered on this yet.

It’s a great design. There is obviously enough demand that Kershaw hasn’t dropped it from the product line, and still will release it with special steels or handle materials every so often for the collectors.

That said, it used to be mentioned pretty frequently in response to questions about a good introductory knife for someone looking to get into the hobby, and I don’t see it mentioned too much anymore.

I like the blur and have a couple of them, they are very comfortable to use, carry, and deploy, they also cut well.

However, the pocket clip is awful, it’s not offset enough from the handle to have enough clearance for the thicker seams on my work jeans, and it sits too high in tip up configuration, I’m not a fan of low rider clips in general, but kershaw should have updated this clip by now or offer a variation that sits better in tip up.

The other gripe I have is that recurve, it cuts so well, but doesn’t resharpen well on a flat stone without rounding the shoulder of the stone. Touch ups aren’t a problem with sharp maker or just a ceramic stick, but heavier work is made much harder due to that recurve.
Some of the blade variations don’t have the recurve while most do, most are hollow ground and a few are flat or mostly flat ground. The hollow ground versions are quite thin behind the edge and slice well, but the flatter ground blades like the S30V is quite a bit thicker and aren’t as slicey.
My favorite was the SG2 blur with dark brown handles, it was so thin and sliced extremely well, but sadly I sold or traded it years ago.

Kershaw, like many others here, was my first introduction into knife collecting. I still have quite a few of them including about four or so Blur's. The biggest thing that I don't like about them, and most Kershaw's in general, is the speed safe assist in them. I actually thought it was the coolest thing ever when I bought my first Leek probably 30! years ago, but have grown to not care for it as I got into better knives and understanding what detents etc was about. That being said I recently took one of my Blurs apart and removed the assist spring out. It now opens and closes like a knife should and it actually has a great detent to it. So if anyone gets a Blur and doesn't care for the assist part of it, it's like a whole different knife when removed.
