Hey everyone looking for some help or advice here. I recently got a blur s30v blem and I love the knife except that the blade is pretty off center, actually rubbing the non clip side of the knife. I have searched and tried multiple ways of centering the blade ( paper trick, loosening all screws centering and gradually tightening all screws back down etc..) and it did improve some but after a number of flips it begins to rub again.

I really like the knife but I am a little OCD about blade play and centering, I can deal with a little off center but it sounds like a scissors when I close it. I am considering trying to sell it at a loss and just putting it towards a non blem but would like to remedy this if possible.

So please blur gurus help me out here

Thanks in advance!

I am by no means a Blur Guru, but I did have a similar experience with a Blur I deassisted, and then reasssisted. I could never get the Blade centered to where it was perfectly centered and still opened like it was supposed to. I would get it so that it wasn't rubbing the scale (non-locking side) and after a day or so it would be rubbing the scale again. I think the opening and closing of the knife was loosening the pivot screw allowing the blade to get further away from center. I put some blue loctite on it and left it set up for a couple days and now that knife is one of my favorite EDC blades. Its still a little off-center but it doesn't rub the scale so Its good for me.

If you are that OCD, you should have bought new instead of a blem.

You're not being very helpful scurvy. :)

OP, I would recommend breaking the whole knife down and giving it a thorough cleaning, pay special attention to the washers. It got mine centered at least. :)

The easiest way to center the blade is get all the handle screws tight and the pivot screw adjusted so the blade opens freely without side to side play then with the knife closed gently bend the handle to bring the blade back to center. The blade will spring right back to the side once you release pressure but that's okay. Now, open the knife and bend the knife in the same direction you did with the blade closed, it helps to rest the pivot on the edge of a counter top or something solid and lean into it a bit. Be careful not to bend the knife too much or else you'll have the blade rubbing on the opposite side.

I bought a blem off the exchange and it had some centering issues. Per some forum advice, I loosened all screws and the pivot, place the knife vertically on a solid surface, tip down. Then tilt the Blur to the left and then push down until blade is centered (and then some). Tighten all screws and the pivot. With any luck, this should work. It worked for me!

Please don't do this^^^^

Do the tried and true paper trick. Here is an explanation of how it's done from RevDevil. Hope he doesn't mind a little copy and paste.

1- Loosen all the handle screws (don't remove them, just loosen them)
2- Loosen the Pivot screw, again don't remove it
3- Get a small piece of paper and fold it a couple times. Wedge it in between the blade and handle until the blade is centered.
4- Tighten the pivot screw all the way.
5- tighten handle screws from the furthest away the pivot, alternating sides if needed.
6- Remove the paper, and slowly loosen the pivot screw just enough so that the blade can be flipped open.

Hope it helps.

If you have tried all the tricks then I would take it apart, clean it very thoroughly and polish where the blade, washers and handle make contact with eachother. In my experience my 2 blurs have strange blade centering, one I cant get quite perfect and the other one centered itself when I took out the pivot screw and put it back in. I hope you can fix it, im ocd about off center blades as well:D

It is amazing to hear all the ways people use to center a blade. What has always worked for me is to loosen the pivot screw slightly, open the knife, push the blade (placing your hand on the blade flat's to do this) towards the liner that it is hitting when the knife is closed. It would seem more likely that you would push on the blade and push it away from the liner it is hitting (or about to hit) but you don't push it that way. Once it is centered just tighten the pivot back to where you want it. As said this is the way I have done it, for 20+ years now, and it seems to work well. And I understand the OCD thing because I have a terrible case of it!!:)

This is how Tom Mayo explained "centering a blade" and don't rule out a off centered grind on the blade itself.
