I had a Kershaw Blur that I'd left in another state for the last year, and I just got it back. Couple questions on this - first off, I was under the impression that the Blur had rubbery handle inserts for grip. Mine has no inserts, the grippy patches are molded aluminum, part of the handle itself. Does this raise the value of the knife overall? I paid some stupid amount of money for it when I first got it, around $160.

Secondly, I'm trying to figure out what kind of steel it is. I'm guessing/hoping s30v. It's USA made and says Nov06 on the blade.

Oh, and it already cut me. Whoopee.

Thanks in advance for whatever info you can offer!

Isn't that just a normal black on black blur? From the date, the blade should be 13C26 I think.

Wouldn't it be 440A? I mean, the changeover date for 13c26 is in '07, right?

Looks like a normal blur to me, man...So, the inserts in the handle aren't the rubbery-kind, but are you sure they're molded aluminum and not the skateboard-tape stuff?

It looks like a normal Blur to me. I really hate to say it, but I think you got ripped off with a huge amount of money. You can buy Blur new on ebay for about $35.00 to $50.00. You could have spent those $160 on a Zero Tolerance knife.

And, worst of all I think you got a 440A model, if I'm not mistaken 440A was used on the Blur knives until 2007. Then they switched to Sandvik steel.

I do hope I'm wrong and that Blur is an S30V model.

Oh well. Also I found my reciept and apparently I spent only $95. Which is better, I guess.

And yes, the inserts aren't grip-tape, they are way too rough and tough.

There are definitely inserts in there. It almost like sandpaper. The grit on them is finer than the skate tape on my Microtechs, but it is definitely some kind of grippy tape insert.

They're definitely rougher than grip-tape but those are the standard grips. A friend of mine bought one thinking that they'd be like grip tape but was surprised at how rough they actually were.
