Next up will be my second Blur frame lock conversion. These are tougher ones to pull off but soon as I catch my breath hopefully I'll make it through to the finish line on this one too. Here are a couple begin pics before I break it down to create a .140 thickness titanium lock side for it. Begin weight is 3.4ounces for this one from the factory. Stay tuned.

I finally got this one started a bit this morning. Not far but its a start. Just been a bit burned on work as of late and have had some trouble getting in the mood. Experience has taught me that when that happens and I push it is when I screw up so I felt best to just wait for it. Even after making time in the shop today the mood never quite hit me but I'm sure eventually it will come back full circle and I'll knock out a bunch. I appreciate your patience. Its officially underway though which is always good.

I see a wee bit of light at the end of the tunnel. :)

Still slightly over sized but it all goes together nicely, lock is spot on from the looks of it and overall I'm quite happy so far. Still lots to do. Note I realize you want the low rider. I'll build that around the original hole pattern as always when I can. This one will go right back together as the liner lock it came from the factory as if need be.

Lock cuts to spring it next up when I get to that and then fine tuning the fit since the slab is still rough needing fit and finish badly. AO works just fine by the way. Snaps right out, blade centers nice and I think you'll be quite happy with this handful of knife when I'm done.
Stay tuned.

Looking Good :).
Yes, it is a handful. The blur is largest folder I own; all my others are under 3" blades.

Gettin' close. Won't be long on this one now. I would be done already I think had I not come down with the cold some friends children we babysat for passed on their colds to. By the way you can already see a completed one from the last one I did by checking out the pics in my blog bottom of the post.

DelrinFred I apologize for the delay here. I really thought I'd have it finished and out of here by now. That cold I caught has been one of those that moved from a sinus headache to a sore throat, to my chest and now to my bowls. Soon as I'm over it I'll get to work again on this. In the mean time I'm staying pretty close to home. Sorry.

Fred this one is done all but the low rider which I have to make four of anyway because I've got three others besides yours here that need done. I intend to have all these out in the mail Monday so hopefully tomorrow I'll have some digital pics of your knife up with the new frame lock side on it.

So far I'm happy with it. I had a bit of trouble getting the lock to blend color wise anodizing it. I'm sure it was due to the heat treating of the lock face but I finally took the flat platten and a gator belt to the outside once more to brush it and rebead blasted it, then anodized it again and it worked great. Its never identical to the factory aluminum anodizing but being two different materials anodized the same chocolate color its as close as I can get it. It looks like the other one I've done in this model thats in my blog pretty much. For some reason yours is slightly heavier than that one actually by a couple points but thats just the ti density diff I guess. Actually it may be that your slab is slightly thicker than that one was. Thats probably it.

Anyway, no pics yet. I'll do a scan here shortly and get the pics in the sun tomorrow.
Thanks man.

Here is the lock side scan of it minus the low rider clip I have yet to make. You can't really make out the color with the scan so don't expect that this does it justice.

This one is finished. Email inbound.

Starting on some other clips and then off to the Emerson Persian frame lock coming up next.

Thanks for looking. Here are two teaser pics for you

Wow. Just wow. That looks amazing--I love how the pocket clip looks almost integrated to the frame lock in color

Thanks. It turned out pretty sweet I must say.

Tolerances are tight on these Kershaws and this SG2 blade steel is my favorite stainless. I love this model other than the liner lock. My two favorite models Kershaw did were this one and the JYDII frame lock in the same steel. Best edge keeping steel I've run I think. Sharpen it once every couple years kind of edge keeping. :D

Steve,
It arrived in the morning mail, and it is a beauty. The pictures don't do it justice. Color match is excellent. Exactly what I wanted - with the low rider clip it is essentially invisible in the pocket, but it comes right out because the metal under the clip is now smooth Ti rather than rough Kraton. The action is very smooth, even better than I recall before the mod. As you point out, the lockup will smooth with use. Should I just let in wear in, or would a dab of grease be good?

Thanks again,

Fred

I would wait til it breaks in on its own. Once the normal wear from the action of opening and closing it polishes down the anodized surface some it should smooth out even nicer for you. Grease may slow that process down some but it will still take place over time.

If it sticks real bad for the lock the #2 lead pencil trick painting some graphite on the lock contact can fix that up for between 20 and 30 lock ups until it smooths out on its own. I would not adjust it though. Best to let it do its thing. The spring on that darn thing really slams the blade home when you open it so it should not be long I wouldn't think.

Glad you got it safely. I was thinking it would get there yesterday but I guess things are slow this time of year.

Thanks Fred.

Hey STR, Im not serious about it right now but i was wondering if you would do this again. And if so how much do you charge. Thanks

No my friend. I've quit doing the frame lock conversions. I'm just not interested in pursuing that anymore. Thanks for asking though.
