Somthing ive been thinking about -

Back in the 70's and 80's, the Buck 110 was everywhere. I remember when I was a kid, just about everyone from every walk of like had one on thier belt, and used it for everything a knife of that size could be used for. That model had (and still has) a lot going for it. Good quality at a reasonable price thats availiable at big box stores. Useful size without being too big, etc, etc.

As much as I like this style of traditional folder, it seems the "average" user now perfers a lighter, thinner model with a pocket clip.

Now, it seeems like the Blur is everywhere, for the same reasons as the Buck 110 of yesteryear. Great knife that you can buy anywhere, and like the 110, appeals to the masses and not just the knife crowd.

Is the Blur this common in your area?

No. The Leek would be closer but I don't know that any knife has been as popular as the Buck 110. If any knife has approached being that ubiquitous then it has to be the Leek.

I see Kershaw knives a lot more than I see any other knife on job sites. I think that this has to do with the fact that Kershaw sells at walmart, target etc.

The only complaint I have is the clip needs to be reversible. I waited along time befor I bought one because of this. Then I bought one for my brother for christmas and had to have one. Makes you wonder what knives will be like in another 30 years.

Chester is the only other guy with a knife I see, so I guess that makes the TiLT the most popular knife where I live.

I have yet to see anybody besides myself carrying a Kershaw, let alone a Blur. Like oregonknifenerd said, I would think the Leek would be closer to a knife like the Buck 110, in terms of popularity with "non-knife" people.

I totally agree with this. Every big box store around here has Kershaw and theres no doubt that good quality/price thats availiable everywhere contributes to popularity.

As far as the Leek's popularity, it could be that now in some areas a smaller size is now the norm, or local laws prohibit carrying anything bigger. I dont consider the Blur (or 110) a "big" knife, but theres no doubt some would.

Of the people I know that carry knives regularly, SAKs are by far the most common.

The Blur was my first Kershaw knife, and I carried that as my main work knife for a while. As my job went more from field work to office work, I downsized (Leek and Skyline). But now that I've put together my green CF FrankenBlur w/ CPM154 blade, that's back in the EDC rotation (and probably not going away anytime soon).

I take it back. Kershaw used to be the most common when I was working on fishing boats. But now that I live around a bunch of cowboys, it's Leatherman tools that are the most common.
