Anyone have experience with both blades? I like the looks of the Avalanche better than the blur but I haven't handled either one. Which one would you recommend and why?

What do you like better about it and what's your foreseen general task?

I've got one of each in front of me.

Basically it's down to appearance. I like the handle shape a bit better on the Avalanche. However, not having handled either, I don't know how they both feel in the hand or how well they lock up, etc. Any pros and cons of either?

My preference is the Kershaw Avalanche; the clip can be used at the extreme ends, so you can carry tip up or tip down, low in the pocket; and I like the shorter blade design and geometry. But, I believe the Kershaw Avalanche has been discontinued.

The Blur has a wider, thinner handle with standoffs. The scales are aluminum with tracktec inserts, which make it slide in and out of the pocket easier then the Avalanche. The Avalanche has very aggressive G-10 scales on both sides which makes it thicker then the Blur, but the overall shape of the handle is more narrow, which would take up less room in your pocket. My long fingers prefer the feel of the Blur in hand over the Avalanche only slightly. They both are assisted open and deploy quickly and lock up tight. The Blur's blade is wider with more belly and a high hollow grind. The Avalanche is more pointed with a slightly thicker saber grind. I prefer the thinner edge of the a hollow grind only second to a full flat grind. The Blur's duel opening studs are the best ever designed in my opinion, but the round stud on the Avalanche works just fine.

All in all, I give the edge to the Blur, but you won't go wrong with either.

There's only about 1/8" difference between the two, though I would admit the Avalanche would be a better piercer. The Avalanche has been disco'ed.

the main difference is the handles, blur is aluminum and avalanche is g10.

avalanches can still be found on ebay sometimes.

I can't comment on the Blur, but the Avalanche (Stonewashed S30V) is the best knife I've ever held.
