I have a kershaw blur great knife but it is getting dull! I notice that it has a curvy blade! I am kind of new to shapening. So how do I make it so when I'm sharpening I don't sharpen it to so where the blade turns flat and is filing down each time I sharpen it? If this makes sence!
Thanks

Use something that can handle recurves. The Spyderco Sharpmaker is a good all purpose beginner's sharpening set.

Agreed. Spyderco Sharpmaker is a useful and easy-to-use tool. Won't have any trouble with the recurve.

You can also butt the side of your sharpening stone against the edge of your table or workbench, and sharpen the recurve using the corner along the length of the stone. Or, you can prop the edge of your stone up with a magazine or book to raise that same corner so it's easier to get at with the curve of the blade. Not the best options, but something to tide you over until you can obtain a Sharpmaker or crockstick.

Will a smiths Wetstone or dimand sharpener work?

Look at the design of the Sharpmaker or a crockstick system to see why people are suggesting it for recurves. The design makes it easy for the sharpening edge to reach those areas, while a standard flat stone can be tougher, causing you to use the corner edge as above.

I like to take wet/dry sandpaper and a short length of 2" PVC pipe split lengthwise. A 10" length of pipe works well with 9" wide paper. The curve of the pipe is about right for recurve blades.

Ok will try all of these. But when I'm sharpening with the curve on my blade eventually go away and file away? Thanks

That's a good idea!

If you continue to sharpen on a flat stone, I imagine eventually you'll wear away the convex portions of the curve until they meet the recurve, but we're talking a long time. If you start sharpening the entire length now using one of the methods above, you'll maintain an evenly sharpened edge.

I have a kershaw blur and it has a recurve blade and I need help sharpening it. I have a smiths Wetstone and a dimand double sided shapening stone. What do need to sharpen this knife. Also if I were to get a sharpening rod what would be a good one? Also I want a cheap rod and i need to know if this is the best way to sharpen this knife. I also want a system that works fast.
Thanks

if you feel like saving some money, use the edges of your stones.

for croc sticks, look at lansky or spyderco

Would the Lansky Turn Box Knife Sharpener work? Or the Universal Lansky Sharpening System
Work? What's better?

Thanks
