I know these are totally different, but I'm wondering what you guys' would choose. I guess the cheaper steel on the blur to keep the prices close.

My main question is, is the Ontario Rat 1 worth paying the $32 for when I could get a Blur blem for $35?

Also did Ontario do a good job representing RAT on this one? Now thats really the question.

From the other threads just on the Ontario alone it's looking like it's worth a lot more than the $30 you pay for it.

Maybe the Blur is overpriced? Anyone think the Blur is worth the $50 and $75 (steel upgrade)?

I would go with the blem. I own them both (my blur is a blem as well) and they are both excellent. However, I think I like my blur more over the rat 1. And yes...I would have to say Ontario did an excellent job on it.

cool, which blem do you own, the black blade or the stonewashed? This sounds like one of those "get both of them" type deals.

Another problem is whether to get a $35 black blem or go for the $45 s30v blem. $45 is a lot for my budget and it would be the most expensive folder I owned.

Decisions like this are tough. But I'm learning to save up and go with quality is better than getting a cheap knife every time you can afford one.

So it looks like the Ontario 1 is a go. But right now I have $50 to spend so it's get the black or s30v blem now or never (near future anyway). I planned on getting the Rat, but I've wanted a blur since they look so cool and I love the angled thumb stud. Oh and that stonewashed blade....

Blur, hands down.

Superior steel, much nicer handle (imho) and the fit and finish on mine were much better than on the Rat-1 I had.

Ok, someone said there was a lot of blade play or rattling when it was open. The video showed a guy holding the blade and shaking it and it rattled. That happened to you guys with yours?

I didn't have either of those problems with mine, but I did have the rattling thing happen with a Cyclone.

The rattling isn't due to any malfunction or wear. It's simply because when the knife is open, there isn't any tension on the torsion bar, and it can rattle against the scales/liners. It doesn't affect the performance of the knife at all, but if it bothers you, it can be fixed with a dot of grease on the torsion bar.

If someone had a lot of play in theirs, it's probably because they couldn't figure out how to tighten the pivot. :p

I've owned a few blurs. They are great knives. The one I kept is the S60V blem. I also just ordered a RAT1. So I'll let you know how they compare when it arrives.
The blur has got to be my favorite small folder. I really don't carry anything with a blade shorter than 3 3/4" anymore. Except for my blur.

Cool, thanks guys. That helps alot. I don't get $50 extra to spend often and the upgraded steel on that Blur looks pretty good for a $45 blem. I just want to make sure it's worth the money.

I'm sure it is, I've wanted a blur for 6 months. I just kept getting other things when I had the money, most I ever spent I think was on a BK2. Now I'm back looking at folders. Wish I had a Delica too, but since I have a Tenacious I carry a lot. I figure a Blur would be better as an alt.

A S30V blur for 45 is money well spent on a knife I can't see you regretting. Much better than the rat, the rat is good but the blur is much better.

Bear in mind that the Blur is an assisted opening model and the Rat is manual.

I am not a big fan of my Rat, which is the hardest opening folder I own. It would make a fine, heavy-duty knife for the tool box, but it is too large and heavy for pocket EDCing, at least for me.

I have the blem version of the S30V Blur and it is identical to my regular version (except for the xxx on the blade denoting a blem.)

If, like me, you don't like or need assisted opening, you can remove the torsion bar and use it as a manual opener. Or keep the AO as is if you like the way it snaps open.

Either way, any of the blem Blurs is a fine value and the the S30V is a particularly good deal at $45 shipped.

I have and s30v blur and its one of my top carries. I love this knife.

Mine also rattles when open. It doesn't affect how the knife works. I've never disassembled it in over 2 years, and the assisted opening is as vigorous as when new. I've had to tighten the pivot twice to eliminate blade play.

Cough up a few extra bucks and get the blur in s30v.

Get the S30V blur. It is better than the Rat-1 in all aspects. It it made in the USA, and S30V is top-tier steel. No you will not regret this purchase, and if you have any more questions please feel free to ask :)

I think most, if not, all AOs do. That's because the torsion bar is in the relaxed position (and I think it's loose) when it's opened.

If you would like this rattling to stop, all you need to do is put some generic grease in the torsion bar cavity. The rattling does not inhibit the function of the knife in any way.

ok cool, I went ahead and sent a message to Kershawguy :) I'm getting the s30v. Now the decision whether to get the Rat-1 also since I got some Christmas money!

Think it's worth it if I get the Blur too? That might be like having too of the same knife. Maybe I should look in too another small kershaw.

Kershaw's in the $25-$35 dollar range from Dave Anderson (Kershawguy) include the Skylines, Ener-g's, OD-1's, Leeks, Packrat, Zing's, Shallot's, and RAM's. I personally would get the $35 Composite Blade Leek blem--it's a heck of a deal for $35, you get true CPM D2 steel in a sweet little knife, and if you really needed convincing, here's a few awesomephotos from of Kneedeep on the forums...
