Howdy folks!

Sorry for my lack of photos. Photobucket isnt cooperating.

Finally bought myself a blur!
I've wanted one for about a year now. Just kept forgetting about it.
Found the one I wanted. An OD-green plain-edge. 14C28N.
And it's AWESOME.

I know what you're thinking.
When a lot of knife snobs (No offense. Really. I'm a bit of a snob myself) hear "Kerhsaw" you/we think "Eh. Could be worse but nothing exciting".
Well, this is different.
Its pretty damn close to perfect.

The lockup:
About 40%. Not moving. No play in any direction.

The grind:
Not bad. Bevels are even but there's a slight recurve at the tip that shouldn't exist. Nothing too bad though.

Fit and finish:
Awesome. Centered, no gaps, parallel handle scales, and the trac-tec inserts aren't loose or peeling up.

I'm really liking it.
The jimping (gimping?) Is subtle, yet still effective.
Creates a nice ramp that your thumb fits into quite nicely.

The recurve just pulls the material in and cuts the living-bejeesus out of whatever it is.

It came really sharp, and a half-hour on my sharpmaker made it hair whittling.
Its now the sharpest knife I have.

Buy it! It should be waaaaaay worth it if its built anything like mine.

Actually The Kershaw blur if you ask me was one of Kershaw's best knives. Before they decided that from now on kershaw would mostly make budget (and frankly mostly boring) but still good blades and ZT would handle all the nice stuff.

Some of my favourite Kershaws from this era of Kershaw greatness, the Boa, Blur, Ripcord, Speedbump.

They may have noticed all the attention Gerber is getting with their Bear Grylls line of knives (overseas low cost production) and wanted a piece of it....kind of sad,

Yeah what is the deal Kershaw. All I see now is an endless sea of boring black and grey knives on your website and ontop of that alot of them look the same. Oh what's that you have there? Blackwash? Sorry it's not cutting it. Too bad because you guys make good quality knives still for the price.

(Exceptions to the kershaw rule of boring include; cryo, thermite, emerson series, knockout, and a few others)

I've admired the lines of the Ken Onion designed Blur for years, but had never gotten around to purchasing one. Recently, I found one at a price just too low to ignore. Think some dealer was clearing out his stock. So I bought one in blue anodized aluminum with 14C28N blade steel.

Close up, and in hand, it is a pretty knife. The curves of the blade merge with those of the handle, so it's very engaging to the eye.

From a functional standpoint,
►the balance point is right about at where the index finger lies on the knife. For me, that's a perfect spot. Makes for a very user friendly knife.
►I measured the Rockwell of another Kershaw knife in 14C28N, and it came it at ~60HRC. This one seems reasonably the same.
►I find the recurve to be mild enough that it does not interfere with using a Sharpmaker to sharpen it. I find the blade profile to be quite functional, as well as good looking.
►It came quite sharp Out Of the Box.
►The lock up is very solid, with the lock engaging in the first half of the tang.
►The speed safe assisted open works well. I've never used a knife with assisted open before. Interesting experience. I'm not especially interested in fast opening knives, but the mechanism works. It stays closed when I want it closed and stays open when I want it open. (and I have to admit it's a kick to open.)

Overall, I'm much impressed. Glad I finally gave in to the desire.

One of my all time favorites and the best of the KO knives in my opinion. I carried a s60v blem for many years and still do from time to time. Love how the blade and handle are almost equal and it's very comfortable in the hand without any finger grooves or choils, just a classic design. Enjoy your Blur&

I have two blurs. Both are very cool and reasonable priced. The handles just work, feels good in the hand. Fit very good in my pocket.

That's my ten cents, because my two cents is free.

Great choice! The Blur was my first "good" knife (over $40) and came in CPM 154. Very great looking knife, mines in olive drab. (Sorry no pics!)

I had a couple of the ZDP-189 brown versions that I bought from kershawguy.com as blems many years ago and those are great knives as well -

A great design, the big brother in the Kershaw line to the Leek.

Thanks for your review.

Frank - nice blue one! I bought one of those for my son since he likes blue.

best

I was checking out the improved knife section of a store and in a wave of nostalgia bought the OD/blk version...super nice.

I have about 2 dozen folders that I rotate through for my EDC, and it just so happens I'm carrying the Blur now. I like it alot; it's a good size, came very sharp and the assisted opening works great.

i carry a Blur every single day and have for years in S30V . Mine is partially serrated of course in black lol , i usually carry the Blur clipped to my pocket and a scout carried Spyderco Enuff in VG10 . i have no complaints with either .

Has anyone experienced the unintended unlocking of the liner lock? I have seen reports on it. Maybe it is an issue for left handed use? I have a few knives with liner locks that are even more exposed, but they have not been a problem for me. I am not sure if the issue involved twisting. There is a YouTube video on it somewhere, but I avoid the blood displays that often accompany knife demonstrations.

Good knife. I carried one for years and then gave it to my son. Still going strong for him after years of daily carry and use.
