I recently received a Boa as a surprise gift from my dear, dear husband! He showed me a bunch of knives on the internet & one of them happened to be the Boa. I told him I liked it but I had no idea he would buy me one. Thank you so much AntDog!!:D

I have other knives, but being a girl, I wanted a pretty one!! No black handle!! My Boa is multi-colored & I think it is a beautiful knife. The shape of the blade is elegant & the handle fits just right in my hand. I have a CRKT Large Mirage that is nice but it feels too big for my hand & it doesn't fit in my pocket good enough to carry every day. My Boa is the perfect size, shape & weight.

I have been using it daily & even called my husband when I cut myself on it for the first time! The recurve shape cuts all sorts of thing well and it hasn't gone dull yet.

Another thing I like is the speed safe opening. I love the little flipper on the blade. It makes opening the knife convenient & it's fun to play with. My 2 yr old thinks I am so cool when I flick it open!!

The only thing I would change about my Boa would be to put a lanyard hole on it. My husband & I were looking all over for purple 550 paracord until we realized the knife blade covers up the holes in the handle!! Darn it I really wanted a purple lanyard!!

All in all though I love my Boa (My husband does too!!) Other than not having a lanyard hole, everything about this knife is just excellent. It is extremely well built, the fit & finish is close to flawless & it is well worth the money!

This is my first post & review!:D :D

Welcome to the forums! I'm sure you'll enjoy the discussions here.

Thanks for the review. I'm thinking about getting one of those multi-color handled Boas myself. Looks like a great knife, and the colored handle should make it friendlier to non-knife people.

I agree with you entirely, 1sharpgal, the Boa is a great knife. Very comfortable, excellent 440V blade, and with the assisted opening the cool factor is just off the map. :) All the knife loving women in my family have given the thumbs up, too. Kershaw and Ken Onion-pure genius.

And welcome aboard. Please post often.

My wife took my Kershaw Avalanche as soon as she saw the Speed Safe in action, :D

Had to get another one, then the Boa and the Whirlwind and the Chive....where will it end! :)

Welcome!

Welcome to the forums, 1sharp gal! Always a pleasure to add one of your gender to our ranks. (Why does it seem that all the ladies who like knives are taken or half or all the way across the country? Almost all.)

I bought a Whirlwind at a knife show last fall. It has proven to be a bit of a disappointment to me, but much of the fault lies with me. I just completed a trade for an Avalanche. I clearly got the better end of the deal in my mind, but the other forumite suggested/requested the trade.

The action seems so much more controlled on the Avalanche. And, IMO, it has clearly the best gripping handle of any knife I own, or have handled. I didn't know G-10 could actually be that easy to hold onto. It ain't as pretty as your Boa, but it's a keeper for sure.

Enjoy your Boa, and kick your hubby off the PC now and then and post some more!

Boa gets two thumbs up from me!
It has a handle that is heavenly to hold. Very easy on the hand and is high on my top ten list of "Most Comfy Knife Handles". That deep re-curved 440V blade makes quick work of cutting chores too. All the while doin it with style!:D

I recently sent mine off to Gary Graley (G2) for a custom leather sheath.

The Boa is very cool. Too bad the thumb ramp is so sharp is saws through my jeans.

Hopefully without the clip, and in a sheath, it will actually see some use.

Glad to have you on the forums, and a good choice in knives as well!

I had one of the black bladed ones but the blade shape didn't do it for me, BUT after getting Michael's mulitcoloured handled one I think I might re-think my position on them, his seems to have been ground a bit thinner and should cut better that the one I had. Nice knife, opens quick and without the clip it does feel bettern in the hand.

I've been a big fan of the Boa since they first came out. My first was a multi-colored model, but I recently got a black one too. The colored one is friendlier but the black is less conspicuous. Some occasions call for one and some for the other. :)

The best investment I've made, since buying the first Boa, was to get a kydex sheath made for it by Mike Sastre. It gives me even faster access to the knife and it keeps those edges on the thumb ramp away from my jeans.

I was going to go that route first, but Mike had too many questions -- I didn't know how I wanted it set up, and I didn't know how the Tek-Lok worked. He also didn't have a pattern, and I didn't really want to part with my Boa. After the raving reviews & seeing pictures of the G2 sheaths, I took the plunge.

I've been thinking a Mike Sastre sheath would be _perfect_ for my Timberline Discovery Lock though....

Thanks for the posative feedback on the Boa, sharp gal and everyone else I'm glad you like it. Try a Chive, Kershaw really got the flicker figured out on that one lightning quick speed safe in a tiny yet thin package 1/4 the price.

"OMG!! Ken Onion responded to my review!!"
That is what I just yelled at my husband! I do love my Boa & am wondering if I should also get a sheath. ???? I like to carry it in my pocket but would a sheath work better??

Gary Graley just e-mail me a pic of my finished sheath.

I think I'll actually cary my Boa now. Great looking sheath.

Thanks for posting the pic Michael.
Michael had wanted an embossing of a Boa on the sheath
but I couldn't find anything that would fit the bill,
he said go ahead and do what I wanted so I came up with
what I call Snake scales, trying to stay in the theme of the Boa...the interlocking embossing stamp makes a nice border.

The Boa knife turned out different than most knives I
get to make sheaths for, the tail end of the handle is
smaller and it progressively becomes larger towards the
guard area. On a lot of the knives I get they butt end
has a slight swell and that helps in the knife snapping
into the sheath, this one fits well but doesn't have that
snap like I'm used to.

I had a Boa last December, a black one, but this one had
a nicer feel to it and was very sharp, also part serrated
which might be the difference, the other one was plain edged.

Nice knife Ken!

Thanks Ken, the sheath works well, but as stated with the butt end of the handle being smaller the knife doesn't snap in as well as I'd have liked, comfortable knife please don't get me wrong!

I've made several for the Kershaw version of your Random Task and that has an excellent handle shape for sheath work, snaps in nicely!
And it's one knife that I really like, I think I've had about 7 of them, I get them and someone talks me out of it and I get another! I'm out right now so I'll have to check around and find one or trade into one as I miss that blade shape too! Plain edged would be my choice...

The Boa is a great little knife. A few sharp edges though (besides the blade)

I removed the thumb stud on mine, then took the fine rod off my Sharpmaker and "stoned" the edges around the thumb ramp and flipper. This helped nicely! :)

Great idea. I might just give that a shot.

Thanks.
