Sorry if this has been already discussed, but I'm looking for a semi-EDC -- when not in suit -- and like the recurve blades. I'm down between the two in the subject line -- thoughts, please. As a wild card, would it be worthwhile for the Emerson mini cqc 15 to become more readily available?

I'm open to other suggestions -- it's unfortunate that nothing in the Spyderco line up is catching my eye 'cause they're right down the road.

Thanks.

My Mini Commander is a pretty ergonomically-correct knife. I dont know how much I like the blade, but the the handle is great. I cant speak for the Kershaw.

I would go for the Boa--they're being discontinued if I recall/remember correctly. My friend has one and it is tough as nails.

Welcome to Bladeforums! :)

I just got cqc 13, best folder Ive ever owned. I was never super impressed with kershaws...

I would go with Emerson

I'm a bit biased, but I like the Kershaw Boa:thumbup: Ergos are great, I love the blade shape, and it cuts like a monster. I have several Boas in my collection and I wouldn't part with 'em. The Boa has a sort of unique look that hasn't been replicated too much from what I've seen. I'm sue some people could come up with other knives that emulate it, but still....it feels very original to me and holds it's own against many newer designs.

Of course, the proper answer is "BUY BOTH!!!"

Good luck:D

I'd go with the Boa.

Wow! CM, coming from you that is a huge compliment to the Boa. I know how much you love your Emersons!!:D

I had the chance to buy a splash handle Boa a couple years ago and didn't. Not much of a Speedsafe fan but it's a very comfy knife.

Wish I'd picked up a splash handle myself when I had the chance. Thought the color scheme was too 80's at the time, and now Don Vito won't sell me his!!!:D

Which one you want? One of the PE or CE?

Wait, you can't have any of them! Hahahahahaha! :D

Back OT, the Boa is a great knife. It reminds me of the ZT line. Very rugged, tough and well made. It could have easily been grouped in the ZT family. I'm very pleased with mine.

For a tough knife, go for the Emerson. For an elegant, well finished knife, go for the Kershaw.

I would choose the Boa. They are available now at a great price and it feels better in my hand than the mini commander.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm thinking the Boa was discontinued as it's no longer on the Kershaw site -- only the Baby Boa. Hmmmm. One guy at a store that carried a decent supply of Kershaws knew of the Boa, but said they never had them in 'cause they weren't that popular. Any ideas why?

Also, if I could pick brains a little more, which Kershaw knife most resembles the feel of the handle -- the Boa is listed at 4-3/4 closed, 4.9 oz. The Shallot is 4-3/8 closed, 4.2 oz. What I can't tell is width.

even if its discontinued, they shouldnt be too hard to find.
