I traded for this BOA , thinking that I would keep it for awhile and then trade it too . When I got it , I thought it was nice , but the safety was loose and would get in the way . I took it apart , removed the safety , and lubed it up properly . BOY WHAT A DIFFERENCE ! This is the smoothest auto/assisted opening knife that I have EVER handled . I have yet to own a double action that works this well . And the blade shape is awsome. It remindes me of the fixed blade PUFFIN , or a kukri . It came shaving sharp and has remained so. That CPM440V is a very nice blade steel . If anyone out there want's a realy nice double action/ assisted open knife .... this is the one .

I've got a few knives, some customs, worth $250-600, but I've found myself carrying my Boa quite often lately.

It is very well made and fits the hand & pocket nicely. I removed my thumbstud, stoned some of the sharp corners around the "flipper" and it's pretty darn near perfect!

I agree. I tend to alternate between my $500+ Boguszewski Cobra on the weekdays and Boa on the weekends.

Although if I had to pick 1 knife out of my "accumulation" (not really a collection) it would be the Cobra, the Boa is an amazing knife -- especially after lubing, stoning and removing the thumbstud.

How did you remove the stud? I took off the screw, but there is a piece of red plastic holding the stud in place. Do you screw out the stud? Is it threaded to the blade?

It would be a good idea to take apart the knife. I have an Avalanche that had a terrible case of blade wobblelitus. Turns out the hole for the closed retention wasn't drilled through. It bulges out from the opposite end. Had to file down the bulge. Then it opens and closes smoothly. Also applied some grease ( good quality).

It would also be a good idea to loctite the screws holding the clip. I lost a screw and only realised when the clip was so loose.

Personally, I find the closed knive too wide. Having a sheath is a very good idea. Only problem is, I can't send in my Boa for the sheath to be made (see my location). What a bummer! If I put it im my pocket, it bulges out noticeably. But talk about the blade! Even with such a thick back bevel, they are sooo sharp. Cuts paper OK, but not so good for fruits, such as apples and mangoes.

The Boa is #2 on my "Ten Most Comfortable Knives to Hold" list. Number one is the lg. Gerber Gator.

I love the unique look of the Boa and the blade profile is pretty useful too. A little thick at the edge, but serviceable.

I got my Boa about 2 weeks ago and i'm totally happy with it. I thought at first I would trade it too but man I just can't let it go. it's gonna see a lot of EDC time at work thats for sure. for you guys taking off the thumbstud do you use the flipper to open it now or are the holes easy to open with? I rarely use the flipper to open it with. I find it a lot easier to use the thumbstud

The boa is almost the perfect knife for me. The only complaint I have is that the flipper eats up pants pretty quickly. I love my boa, though. It's my favorite non-spyderco folder.

I had to shave that flipper down a bit. It is a little more difficult to deploy now with the flipper, but I don't use it anyway for deploying the blade. The "flipper" does make for an outstanding guard however, and that makes me very happy.:)

Hey Misque i've been thinking about shaveing it down a little too. do you use the thumbstud or did you take that off too? are the holes in the blace big enough to use like spyderco holes to open the blade?

I just use the thumb stud or wrist flick it Brandon. Mostly I use the stud. Taking the "flipper" down a notch has reduced the amount of wear and tear on my dress slacks.:D
I use it mainly as a dress up folder now.
It has the good looks of a gents folder and fills that roll well for me.

As an added note, I'm finding this folder to be relatively sheeple friendly. They only balk:eek: initially at the size of the blade. After that, it's usually: "what a (cool!)(pretty)(nice) looking knife!"

Brandon,
The holes aren't really big enough to use ala "spyderco". I just used the ceramic rods from my Sharpmaker to stone the sharp edges around the flipper and it still works great, but feels much better.

Thanks a lot guys. I'll be using it a lot for work so i'll stone the edges too. Misque I'm guessing that you don't have the black one right? I'm in the army so when I go to work and pull out a big black folder everyone just thinks it's cool or else they get called a wuss or something. I can't imagine anyone at work thinking that it's "scary." that is one good thing about my job right now. hey if that came with a good paycheck it might be worth doing for 20 years!:D thanks again for the tips guys guess i'll be keeping that thumbstud!

Wow, looks like you guys really like this knife. I'm looking for a new knife myself - guess I'll have to check into this Boa!

I love my Boa, too. I must just be strange, though, in that I never use the thumbstud, and always use the flipper. Much faster, and no chance of Speed-Safe blade chase. A little wrist roll with the flipper, and the blade bangs out HARD.

Brian. How do you carry your Boa? do you use a sheath or carry in your pocket or what. I carry in my pocket and feel that I can open it a lot faster with the Thumbstud. I have been thinking about a belt sheath canted on my right side. maybe it would be faster to use the flipper if I carried it that way.

Brandon -

I carry it clipped in my right front pocket. Admittedly, I don't have a compulsion for quick draws. It comes out and opens mighty quick for me. Actually, it's too fast for the public in a lot of cases, so I either open it into my palm or under a table. I've never had to "race" anyone, but there have been lots of times where the perception of hard opening a large auto would put a hurting on me. For instance, in the post office to open my mail.

A right side, forward canted sheath would put the knife in a very good position for fast openings with the flipper. Just clipped, though, I can get it out and open faster than most any standard folder.
