Can anybody tell me what years the Boa was produced with S60V steel? I was looking at the 08 catalog at the specifications. It mention's nothing about the sliding safety that the one I bought has. I also noticed this one is configured for tip down right handed and tip up right/left handed carry. Also there does not seem to have a BOD mark on this knife. To make a long story short can anybody tell me how old this model might be. Any information would be much appreciated.

The early ones (prior to 03 I think) were. I have some marked 440V and some marked S60V. Same steel basically. I'll have to dig thru them and get you the correct dates/steels. I have one that has the etching done in a copper/bronze color thats tapped for tip up/down right and up left carry.

On another note, the Boa is one of my favorites! Big and built tough! I stopped carrying them because of the hard edges on the knife. One evening I sat in front of the TV and with a few different grits of sandpaper, I "de-burred" every edge (except the blade ;)) on the knife, just as is done with custom shop guns. Made a world of difference, and the Boa a pleasure to carry!

my Boa is one of the older 440v models and is mounted on the metal support on my tv tray that sits by my recliner. :D

The BOD is probably hidden and only visible as the blade pivots while opening or closing the knife; it's the same with Kershaw's Avalanche model.

Or, perhaps it was made before 2000 when Kershaw first started using BODs on their USA-made models...I don't know when the Boa first appeared but it's possible yours might not have a BOD if it's old enough.

I've got a pretty early 1580ST Boa. Not sure how old it is, but it is quite possible I bought it before 2000, as there is no BOD (nothing visible when the blade pivots or otherwise), but it does say on the blade that it is CPM440V steel. It is tapped for tip up or down, left side only.

I started looking closer at my Boa and I did find a BOD marking (04 NOV) as reholli stated at where I should look. Thanks to all the posters for their time and information.
