Can anyone tell me more about this buckle? Some of the gold plating is wearing off. I am happy with the find.

I know they sold some sets with a belt buckle, but it wasn't that nice of a buckle ! That is a beauty.

I'm not the belt-buckle wearing type, but that is one COOL bit of Kershaw history! Looks like a great find.

I searched around and found some model made of pewter that
look exactly like that. One had a number of 402? and another 20-something thousand.

Never came across any that were gold-plated like yours.
Maybe the 3 T's will chime in SINCE THEY WORK AT THE FACTORY, :D
and let us know.

totally worthless, send it to me, and for your trouble I'll send you a nice, useful American Eagle buckle with a bottle opener on the back. Free of charge!

GREAT find, I don't even wear buckles and I'm jealous!

I thought you guys were Kershaw Fans? No one knows why or to whom these are given? I guess I'll have to go spyderco, I hear there fans are realy dedicated. LOL, just bustin your chops. Seriously though, I have never had a question go unanswered on BF. Doesnt anyone know?

I was wondering if they went to employees or if they were sold. I dont want to sell it or anything but I am curious about it. Also I should thank my friend Bob Lafrance for holding on to it for the last 15 years or so. He found it at a garrage sale originaly.

Thanks for the input so far, I had no idea there were any numbered so high.

BigJim,
I was browsing around the net last night and saw one on ebay, the pewter looking variety, and it dawned on me...I wonder if maybe somebody did their own home plating job on the one that you have. Is it possible. I can't really tell from your pics, but can you tell if it was possibly the plain version underneath the gold at one point?

Just an idea

But the words "24kt gold plate" is part of the molded buckle..... It must have been manufactured that way.

Not a home job...if you notice, his buckle is specifically embossed with the description 24KT Gold Plate...I think this was a special limited edition, and possibly came with a set of knives associated with the Ranch, but there's no info out there on this one that I can find.

BigJim: Kershaw's Sales Manager, Thomas W, is pretty knowledgeable about this stuff but is currently traveling...hopefully when he has a chance to catch up with the forum he'll be able to help out.

Edit: Ooops...trimcut124 beat me to it...sorry for duplicate info...

LOL oops, sorry guys, I posted without taking a second hard look at the pics. My mistake.

I can't find out anything about this one, very interesting.

Cheers,
Jon

There were very few of the gold plated buckles vs. the all pewter versions. Unfortunately there is not an exact number that I can quote you, as the factory didn't keep records of the them. Best guess would be between 500-1000 pieces. They were done up in 1989/90.

Thomas, on a somewhat related note, could you tell us the history of the D.W.O. knives?

Well certainly it was a very emotional time back back in 1984, and still is today.
To quote Pete Kershaw:

"This knife (D.W.O. Model 3000) is dedicated to the memory of my close friend and hunting partner who was the victim of a tragic accident.

At less that 60 yards, a careless hunter mistook the horse Delley was riding for a bull elk - and fired.

Delley was a warm friend to everyone he knew, quick with a smile and a good natured prank. He was one hell of a cowboy and guide, but above all, a loving son, husband, and father.

I'm sure the guy who shot Delly thought he was a safe hunter. We all do, don't we? But are we? Think, think, think about every move you make with a gun."

To this day, a portion of each sale of the Model 3000 D.W.O. is placed in a fund for Delley's family.

Thanks, Thomas. I have one of the pewter buckles, and had researched a bit on the web for information on the D.W.O. knives, but that's more detail than I was able to turn up.

And Pete Kershaw's "think, think, think" sentence should be one's mantra any time one goes shooting or hunting.

Thanks a bunch for the info and the story. I lost a friend to a firearms accident and we all need to be constantly aware of safety.

Thanks for the info Thomas. Now I feel better for purchasing
a dozen of the various D.W.O.'s.
Even though we're talking 24yrs ago, I hope the Delley family is doing well.
