Can anyone tell me about their experiences with this knife? Blade is a
rather steep recurve and apparently made with a good grade
S30V stainless.

Also, what's the RC on the blade?

Thanks!

Can S30V really that good, anybody could elaborate on this please. Can't seem to find it here

I once had a titanium bump, and while it is an excellent knife in every way, I just could not get used to the blade design.

S30V steel is an excellent steel from my experience.

Good luck,
Allen

I know that the search function can be a pain, but there are numerous threads discussing the pros and cons of S30V. Rockwell stats on the bumps should be somewhere in the Kershaw forums. I have a TI Bump S30V and have not had any problems with it. It stays sharp and cuts very well. The main complaint seems to be that S30V may slightly chip at the edge depending on the blade angle and heat treat. This happens with many types of steel and is usually corrected when the blade is re-sharpened or re-beveled. The Kershaws have a good HT for all of their products. Also any maker using Paul Boss HT on any type of steel will also be good.

Regarding the search feature, it's down, period, to non-paying members.

The Kershaw description: The four-inch blade is flat ground for strength and built of S30V stainless steel. S30V is made through a metallurgical process that results in extremely uniform molecules; so much so that inclusions or impurities are eliminated or insignificant. The process creates steel that is strong, workable, and has excellent edge-retention properties. It rates a durable 55-57 on the Rockwell Hardness Scale.

Actually, I'd rather have a "durable 58-60" (the Kershaw Blur has an RC of 58-60), and tiny chipping doesn't bother me as long as it can be sharpened out. It might make the blade cut a little better as long as it doesn't chip too much.

I have a handful of Kershaw Bumps, three of them with S30V blades, and I've never had too much trouble with them. I like recurves, even if they are a pain to sharpen sometimes, but think they look great. I've also had no trouble with chipping on any of my bumps.

I'd recommend them any day.

Cheers,
Jon

I've got 3 bumps. The cheaper speed bump(love the handle),the spec-bump(shown) & a green titanium bump.I like the titanium bump's locking system the best.I've never been a big fan of the the stud lock.Just seems flimsy.

Interesting, I thought the Stud Lock was very comparable to Benchmade's Axis Lock with the parts in reversed locations. I guess that would make the liners the weak link, so I wonder if they are heat treated or not?

I am actually willing to bet that the ultimate strength of the studlock is higher than that of the framelock. But more importantly, I think that the reliability is outstanding, in part because it offers such a great transparency. You see immediately if something is wrong.

I'd have to agree with you on these points. Also there is no open area in the handle to allow dirt to enter and interfere with the lock (like the axis). I also find it very easy to disengage and close my Speed Bump and Offset one handed. Also the coil spring is virtually fail-proof VS omega springs I have heard giving people problems.

My favorite lock on a folder would have to be the lock back(like on most spyderco)with the Boyle dent.I'm not a real HUGE fan of Spyderco, but I really do like their locking mechs. What I was saying about the stud-lock,was that I didn't like the way the little spring is set up to hold back the thumb stud.Just seemed it would be a problem if it got dirty/muddy..etc.Oh well, everyone has their own prefs
