Kershaw chill

How about the knife itself general opinions?, everything cost more in dumb canada drives me nuts. It's way worse when you want a spyderco.

Decent flipper, have one but don't carry it. For me the blade is too long and skinny. Just MHO.

I’ve handled it and like it. I think it would be a great light EDC. Plenty of blade, light and narrow in pocket, and the one I checked out had a decent action. $44 is overpriced for a US sale; can’t comment for up north.

ETA It’s definitely a light EDC. If you’re after something that fully fills the hand, look elsewhere.

It's light, thin and unobtrusive. I generally like wider blades but I like how narrow the chill is but still having a decent blade length. My son has one and it's actually incredibly smooth. The action feels great. But I wouldn't pay $44 for it. It's a $15-20 knife in my opinion. Having said that I'd buy one for myself at a higher price if they upgraded the blade steel a bit.

It's an R.J. Martin design -- he's a bigtime name in the business.
It was manufactured in China of inexpensive parts and was (and still is) sold here under the Kershaw name.
It was popular as a light-carry, moderately priced EDC.
I never carried mine, preferring a slightly shorter 2.75-3-inch length folder.
It's perfectly fine at the right price but there is a lot of competition out there.
Currently, Kershaw's own Fraxion, Method and Atmos come to mind among recent lightweight, manual flippers that available at around the $30 mark.

It’s a good little knife. One of kershaws nicer knives imho. I’m in Canada too so I know how expensive knives can be up here. It isn’t going to stand up to any heavier use.

Imho some of the nicest Kershaws are the Emerson Kershaw collabs.

Is it a decent edc knife and is it worth it at 44 dollars
If you want a slim, elegant EDC. Sure, it's a greak knife. It's not a hard use folder though. $44 also seems a bit high, but it would depend on what other options you have in that same price range. It's a $20 knife here.

Hopefully I'm not breaking any rules, or at least not breaking the spirit of a rule as I don't think we have any Canadian sponsors at all other than paying members. If I am Mods, please feel free to remove this post.

House of Knives has the Byrd Cara Cara 2 for $27 right now and the Spyderco Spy-DK for $31. They're both better knives than the Chill and cheaper to boot. The Cara Cara 2 is a beast for that price.

I forgot to mention two newer models of Kershaw flippers that you might want to consider. The Kershaw Fraxion and the Atmos. Both are ball bearing flippers that really work fast. Mine came with good edges. No blade play and are available in a number of color handles and blades (including black). I've both and am very happy with both; maybe a little partial to the Fraxion as it is a bit grippier. Take a look, I think you will like them.

Are flippers legal up there?

I agree the Byrd Cara Cara 2 is a heck of a knife for the money, but I would only want the G10 version, myself.

I disagree. I'd only want the frn version. It's much lighter.

I believer they're fine to own, but cannot be imported.
Correct. Completely legal to buy a flipper from Walmart and carry it in your pocket, but illegal to import. How the big retailers continue to import flippers is the frustrating/puzzling question...

Everyone has different tastes and preferences, that's a good thing. But to me, the FRN on the Byrds and even some Spydercos just feels cheap and too light - reminiscent of how the nylon scales on Griptilians feel cheap and too light to me. I love my Griptilian 550 HG now that it wears G10 scales - I couldn't stand it when it had the nylon scales. I own a Cara Cara 2 in G10. I prefer carrying a knife that weighs about 3/4 of an ounce more, when it feels much more solid and sturdy compared to the nylon scaled versions.

3.4 oz is "much lighter" than 4.25 oz? Percentage wise, I guess...

I disagree. I'd only want the frn version. It's much lighter.

I really like the chill.... for a lightweight/gents EDC. No hard use, like others have said.
Mine has got great flipping action and I love the thinner blade and profile.
