I have a kershaw clash awaiting review(for youtube) i have been carrying it for a while and i just wanted to ask everyones opinion on whether they think it is an edc/utility knife or a folding tactical knife(i have my own opinion but i just wanted to see what everybody else thinks) Thanks guys!

Tactical is mostly a marketing term, a good quote:

Tactical is something you do, not something you buy.

I would just review it as a knife, on its own merits. I don't really put stuff into "EDC" or "tactical" categories since they can be either/or.

Ya Goosey said it well. I personally am tired of the word tactical. But to answer your questions, I wouldnt consider the Clash a battle front ready knife. So no on the tactical.

I dont usually watch knife review videos b/c the reviewers ramble on like middle school girls. Bullet points, precise and quick, that would be a vid I would watch.

I generally agree with the overlapping nature of "EDC" and "tactical", but it still remains a worthy distinction. A SOG Flash I is no doubt predominantly or exclusively an EDC knife (but you could still stick it in someone's cornea if you had to), whereas a Cold Steel large Espada is hardly something that one would use as a daily utility knife to open letters and peel apples (though you could). But I agree that "tactical" is something you do, and its between your ears and not so much in your hand.

Peewee SOGs, for example: EDC yes, tactical not so much.

I would really argue that tactical has become an almost purely aesthetic term at this point. I've very rarely heard anyone describe the Spyderco Military or Police as tactical knives, despite the fact that both are purpose built duty knives, and I think it's largely because Spydercos tend not to have The Look we associate with tactical knives or gear. Given that, I'd say wether or not a knife is tactical is purely subjective.

Who can even define what a tactical knife really is? I think a tactical knife should be tough so you can use it for tough jobs if you have to. I also think a tactical knife should have a good point in case you need to stab with it. I think these attributes would be great for a utility knife too, so in my mind a tactical knife is a good utility knife and vice-versa. Now it seems like a good hunting knife has a lot of curve in the edge, a lot of "belly", and needs to have a thin grind for good slicing. So a good hunting knife is less useful as a tactical or utility knife.

To be fair, he did say he has his own opinions.

Having owned one, I know the Clash would serve well in the EDC role, so long as you don't mind the lack of a more penetrative tip. Also, I found the handle to be a little too thick for me, but not by much.
