I"m a fan of the Gayle Bradley Spyderco M4 knife, my EDC. I was wonder how the other manufacturers M4 knives perform like the Kershaw Blur M-4 by Kershaw, or the Benchmade Freek M4.

From the quasi-scientific cut testing I've seen, it's inconclusive. Supersteel Steve tested an M4 MiniGrip and a PM2, with the PM2 coming out slightly ahead (180ft vs 182 ft). Pete (Cedric & Ada) has two relatively recent tests on a Freek and an M4 Mule team, both with 17 DPS polished edges, and the Spyderco was significantly ahead (620 rope cuts vs. 470). He also tested an M4 Military that was "dual-grit sharpened," and it lasted 1050 cuts. As usual, there's a lot of variables involved, but I don't think you're likely to see any appreciable difference between brands.

The blade geometry between models, even with the same manufacturer, will make a much bigger difference than heat treat.

These three should all be similar in HT goals and the margin of error for heat treat probably erases any engineering decisions any of them would make.

Thanks for the good info. All are about the same size and blade dimensions. Prices, and locks differ.
