i've had my cqc-7k for about two weeks now and i was looking today and on the bead blasted frame lock side there were rust spots wtf . has any one else had this problem already :grumpy:.

I haven't noticed this problem on mine, and I've carried it a few times while I was outside working on the hot rod in 90+ degree humid Florida summer weekend days. Maybe try giving it a quick rubdown with an oil cloth, or a spot of Brasso?

I've had success in using Q-tips when I need to reach areas like that for cleaning. Got any lying around? If not, maybe a toothpick and a bit of paper towel balled up, and dampened with WD-40?

good idea and it worked for now who knows how long itll take for them to come back

I use aegis solutions on all my carbon steel and bead blasted stuff and it's fantastic at preventing rust.

one of the reasons why I tend to stay away from bead blasted stuff....... the good news is that its only the coating rusting LOL

They are not $25. Yes, rust does wipe off as long as it's surface rust and not pitted. Just have to use the right solvent. Qtips do work great for this. No WD-40 is not a rust inhibitor per se, but if you rub it on surface rust it takes it off, which is applicable in this case. Basically, wipe the rust off with WD-40 and move on. If you want something that's designed for that - use nevr dull. It will take off every speck of rust no problem.

All that being said.... I don't worry about rust at all. I just use my knives. If they have a few stains I don't give a damn at all. Not even on a high dollar folder. If you use your knives regularly it isn't a problem. Use knocks the rust off and keeps them from rusting.

$37, whatever. Kind of splitting hairs here. If Ernie didn't need his money, they would probably be $25. Point is, it is a cheap Chinese folder. Use it, and don't care about an inevitable rust spot on a bead blasted steel part of the knife.

I cannot imagine being in Kershaw's shoes fielding complaints like this about a $37 dollar knife.

I've seen some surface rust spots on my 6k around the pocket clip. Gonna clean it up and keep it coated with some wd40 now

I just paid $29 for one.

As a side note, I apply Break Free CLP to my knives, let sit overnight, then wipe em off before use. Never ever a problem with rust since I've started doing that.

It does help protect against corrosion...

What does WD-40 Multi-Use Product do?

WD-40 Multi-Use Product fulfills five basic functions:
1. LUBRICATES: The product's lubricating ingredients are widely dispersed and tenaciously held to all moving parts.
2. PENETRATES: WD-40 Multi-Use Product loosens rust-to-metal bonds and frees stuck, frozen or rusted metal parts.
3. PROTECTS: The product protects metal surfaces with corrosion-resistant ingredients to shield against moisture and other corrosive elements.
4. REMOVES: WD-40 Multi-Use Product gets under dirt, grime and grease. Use it to remove gunk from tools, equipment and vehicles. WD-40 Multi-Use Product in liquid form (e.g., gallon) also dissolves adhesives, allowing easy removal of excess bonding material.
5. DISPLACES MOISTURE: Because it displaces moisture, WD-40 Multi-Use Product quickly dries out electrical systems to eliminate moisture-induced short circuits.

Lubrication and prevention is one thing. Actual removal is something else. I use Breakfree CLP to do all of the above and have had positive results.
