So a week or so before Christmas I noticed the Kershaw crown at wal mart for $10.. I bought two, one as a last minute gift and one for me :D

I opened mine when I got home as was really impressed with the knife overall. great F&F for $10. no rough edges and flush all around. a little dull but thats np.

The second knife (opened on Christmas) wasn't as good. all the F&F was the same.. but the deployment and smoothness was bad. I tried some oil to no avail. Should I try taking the whole thing apart, then clean and lube? asking too much?

I just made this quick vid to show how good the one I got is. anyone considering this knife I think you should get one.

For 10 bucks you can't do much better than the crown.

My grandma bought me one for christmas (She's awesome) The F&F is fantastic my only gripe is that the liner engages almost all the way over to the other side but there's no blade play at all. i can get the blade horror movie sharp and they put a nice hollow grind on the blade, it's a friggin laser.

Got a blue one for my daughter for Christmas and she loves it.
I was kinda worried it might turn out to be lower quality than the usual Kershaw Crowns but that wasn't the case.

Try putting a couple of drops of dish soap in the pivot area. Let it sit for a couple of minutes, flush it out with warm water, let it dry, then oil it. Sometimes there is some residual gunk from the manufacturing process and cleaning it out like that helps. It might not, but it won't hurt to try.

my crown barely locks up. i have to check the lock before i use it to make sure it's engaged. other than that it's a steal at 10 bucks.

I tried the soap idea and it didn't work. i guess ill have to take it all apart.

my "good" one is actually around 50% lockup, and almost dead centered when closed. neither have lockup problems

Have you flossed the pivot yet? That might help release any grit that may be in there . . .

I was at wal mart a week ago and looked at the Kershaw Crown and I was thinking about buying it but I didn't pull the trigger on it because it looks pretty weak and the liner lock doesn't look very strong....I think next time I'm at wal mart I'm gonna get the Buck 110 because I lost my other 110 a long time ago.

The detent ball is wearing into the blade making it rough. Take it apart and try to polish the groove in the blade. And also polish the brass washers to make them flat and smooth. Reassemble with a little oil and it should be good to go.
