Kershaw Crown reviews?

My review is on Amazon. I didn't buy it there but what can I say? It's a great knife value, but somewhat hefty in the style of the old Buck folders. I thought the handle scales were micarta, but the whole rig is hell-for-stout no matter the material. I bought the blue model in December 2011.

It is a terrific knife for the money, but pales in comparison to many of its stablemates just because Kershaw puts out such a mind boggling array of sweet blades. We're all just spoiled.

It's a nice, simple gentleman's folder, but not something I'm going to carry every day. I purchased it simply because I was moving and (in a moment of stupidity) packed all of my other knives away. A quick trip to Wal-Mart earned me this little guy for only $10 (now they are $15) which I think is a steal.

I'm not a big fan of the 8Cr13MoV, but you can't argue for $10-$15. Full flow-through design and solid lanyard hole make it a nice utility knife. It did what it was intended for through my move and I can see myself using it in other "work" environments, but not carrying it around as an EDC blade.

The micarta scales don't offer the best grip, but they work for what they are.

I've already addressed the steel, but it is surprisingly satisfactory on this knife. What I mean by that is, in the past, I have had problems getting this steel sharp and keeping an edge. Sharpening this knife isn't as bad as I expected, but edge retention is exactly what I expected.

The pocket clip is disappointing. It is set for right-handed, tip-up carry. That's the only place it can go due to the curve of the clip and way it's inset into the handle. The inset also means that you can't take it off without leaving a space in the handle that looks "weird." But, if that's the position that you want it to be in, it's a perfectly functional clip with no frills or hocus-pocus.

Overall, it's a good "work knife," and if this is exactly what you're looking for (with the clip position and the steel type), you'll be extremely happy.

For the money its a great knife. I also bought mine at walmart in december of 2011. i got the blue one. you can get either blue or black. i think blue is prettier. I managed to get this steel pretty sharp using a 750 (i think) diamond sharpening stone. If you dont know about the steel its a little like aus 8. which really is decent. Its just a good working steel that youll have to resharpen from time to time. It will rust tho. I like the finish on the blade. kinda like a satin finish. Its a liner lock. it seems to have plenty of wear in room. Its not that grippy. you dont have much grip on the handle. its just a little gentlmans folder.

I got one for Christmas. I find it a great working knife that takes and holds a good edge. It's light enought for pocket carry, but has enough heft that you won't "lose" it in your hand. The handles and scales are a bit slick for my liking. The lock is positive and there are no sharp edges anywhere there shouldn't be. I saw this knife at Walmart for $10 over the holidays and apparently they didn't last long. I'm glad I got one and it has become part of my rotation.

I bought one as a gift for a friend of mine. Before I gave it to him I gave it the once over. Razor sharp, solid feel, no bladeplay, opened quickly. I liked it so much I may need to get one for myself.....

I bought one of these and have used it for fishing and got a few more as gifts. I went to my local Walmart yesterday and saw a few of the holiday ones left in the box labelled $10 on the box. I noted the Buck Tins were marked down 15% and asked if the Crowns were marked down too? The saleman checked and the Crowns now scanned at $14!!!! I told him that I was looking for a bargin, but if I had wanted one he would have to sell it for $10 since that is how the box is marked ( he agreed). I guess they raised the proic of the holiday ones to the normal price after the holidays???

I found one bellow the dam in ok shape but I cleaned it up it's a nice knife for 10 dollars

It's a beautiful little knife, I'm fondling it right now :D. For $10 you can't go wrong, and this was $10 well spent.

The only negative though, is the pocket clip. It just doesn't match the knife, the knife has this semi-elegant feel to it, and the pocket clip really takes away from that IMO. Otherwise, it has this crisp click when it locks open, the polished steel feels great in your hand along with the polished G10 (which isn't grippy). Overall though, it's a very well priced eloquent little knife.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't micarta another name for G10?

Both epoxy laminates, but fabric is different. G10 uses glass fiber, while micarta uses linen, paper or other "natural" substance. Feel is similar, but micarta is often contoured more to show the various elements.

I got mine, great knife this. The looks speak as if this is some $40 plus knife. QC is very nice. I think they are under rated like several other good ones out there. The polished micarta is a delight.

I'm betting if it was actually made in the USA from non-Chinese steel, it would be $40+

I use mine as a work knife. With all the other fine Kershaw knives I have, I am embarrassed how much I like this knife. Sharpens well (and easily!), holds an edge well, and is sturdy enough for some honest work on the construction site.

The clip position is exactly as I want. I like the tip up, and the blade secured against the seam of my jeans. It helps keep the blade from opening when I am climbing around, and if it does open a bit, I won't get bit when I stick my hand in my pocket or when I pull it out.

Thankfully, I bought three. One was immediately gifted to someone that thought I bought him a $40 knife, and I carry a blue one with a black in reserve.

Love just about everything about this little knife.

Robert

I like almost everything about this knife. The scales are too smooth. Hard to grip securely.

I bought a few as gifts from Wal-Mart at the $10 price before Christmas, and only managed to give away two! I have one black in my EDC rotation and one black and one blue in the collection. As others have said, you can't beat the price for the level of quality. Of course, it's not a knife for every situation (and that's why we all have so many different knives!), but it is a nice gent's knife. I used White Lightning's wax lube on the pivot (as I do on all of my knives), and the opening is now way slicker than one would ever expect from a $10 knife! Anyway, even at $14, it's a great deal, don't hesitate to add one to your collection!
