Kershaw Cryo II Tanto w/blackwash finish
I recently purchased this knife for my friend as a gift, and I just wanted to give my impressions of it. Let me first say that I am extremely impressed. I have always loved my Kershaw knives, and think they offer an excellent knife for the money. It weighs over 5 ounces, so it is a little on the heavy side for EDC, but it would not be enough to deter me from carrying this knife. The blackwash finish seems really tough, and I love the way it looks; it should age well. Not a huge fan of tanto blades, but it just seemed to fit this knife well, and I bought locally, so I didn't have as many options. I like the blade overall though. The knife was sharp out of the box as usual with Kershaw. Blade play is pretty much non existent if tightened properly. Fit and finish seem good overall.
It wasn't until I compared it to some of my other EDC knives (Spyderco Endura, Kershaw Leek, Benchmade 5500 Mini Presidio Auto) that I realized how hefty this knife really is. It makes some of my other EDC knives seem a little scrawny in comparison. It isn't so bulky as to be annoying though. It is fairly flat, so you don't notice it in your pocket much. Also, the deep carry pocket clip is by far one of the best I have seen. It just feels tough all around, like it belongs in a tank, not a pocket.
Most importantly, this is a $40 knife. After buying this one for my friend, I definitely plan to get one myself. At that price it is hard not too. It feels more like it costs more like $80. Plus, if you lose it, no big deal, just get another. If you prefer a heftier EDC knife, then I would give this one a shot.
