i took the speedsafe spring bar out my kershaw cyclone and i was pleased to find it has a nice detent. it works great as a flipper or manual knife. the cyclone was one of my favorite kershaws, its shame its discontinued.

The Cyclone is a fine 'working' knife with a very stout blade - I enjoy mine. You may want to hunt down another one as a backup.

Some of the Cyclones if not most of them had a toggle on the back to disable the spring assist.

I have the mini cyclone and it has the toggle. Has a bit of a rattle from the torsion bar probably needing a little bit of grease. Lovely knife, and yeah it works great with the assist turned off. Mine is a drawer queen:

I thought they all had that ability. They made some without it? Its kinda why this thread had me puzzled.
Yes they did as poolhustler confirmed. I've personally seen more with the toggle than without. There are few non toggles floating around out there though obviously.;)

Man, those were from a time I exclusively collected kai knives. Makes me feel like a novice.

The large models did not have the switch to turn on and off the assist. The small versions came with that switch. The titanium version even has the switch.

That would probably explain why i dont remember them as I only had the mini cyclone.

I personally don't mind the weight, but it is very wide for what it is.... and it's kinda thickish. Takes up a lot of pocket space......so i rarely carry it.

I have two of the 1630 full-size tanto version and two 1635 mini drop points, all with the toggle. The 1630 is one of my favorite knives, and I actually prefer the look of the serrated tanto, which I think really stands out as a unique design. Until just now buying a second tanto, all of my Cyclones were safe queens, but this one is going immediately into my EDC rotation. I'll probably have the assist turned off most of the time, but I like having the option to turn it on.

i have a large one from 2006 and it does have the switch on it, but i wanted to remove the bar because it rattled quite a bit. i wasnt sure if the knife would still work properly or not, but no problems at all. i actually like opening the knife with the thumbstud quite a bit, feels good on this knife.

I have one without the a/o toggle switch. I had it de-assisted for a while, and it worked fine. But I liked this one better assisted, so back in went the torsion bar.
