I bought a Kershaw Blackout blem for cheap, within a week I hid it from myself. My neiborhood has had several breakins and I hid it real good. Either its gone or the wife took it to the pawn shop.

In haste I bought the biggest Black Kershaw I could find on ebay. It is the full sized Kershaw Black Cyclone with partially serrated blade.

I should have researched here before I spent the $40. It should arrive in a few days.

Did I make a good choice in my haste? I wanted a big knife so I could keep track of it. Mainly it will be used for shelf duty or WSHTF.

What would be a good compliment that would actually be of a size I could EDC for self defense (I have a little Gerber skeleton for working) ?

A good choice? Yes! The full sized Cyclone is a great knife, and you got it for a really good price.

EDC for SD is a tricky subject. Most knives don't make the best weapon of choice, but having a knife is better than nothing.

If you're looking for something a little smaller, take a look at the Mini Cyclone. Made just like the full sized one, SpeedSafe included, they can be found here for $ 24.99 plus shipping.

I have several of these, and I find they are a great carry knife...small enough to be comfortable in your pocket and not leave a big print, yet big enough to do most any cutting chores you run across. I don't think you would be unhappy with this knife.

The Cyclone is a really solid full sized knife. Fires hard, or flips open smoothly if you want to turn the AO off. Whether or not it ends up being your cup of tea for SD...only you can say. That aside, it'd be a nice durable blade for regular EDC use.

I received the Cyclone today, is it normal with the open assist to not push the blade all the way to lock? With the flipper it locks open no problem, but via the thumb knob it doesn't have the momentum to open all the way.

Using the thumbstud takes some practice, on mine it actually fires harder with the thumbstuds, but only because I've been doing it for a while now.

+1 let the torsion bar break in. you will notice a drastic improvement

up to you. before i started taking knives apart when i got them, i wouldn't do anything to them. now i have gotten into the habit of breaking the knife down to parts when i first get it, cleaning it with alcohol, polishing the washers with flitz and then applying militec-1 grease to the torsion chamber and pivot areas. once the knife is back together (because militec is heat activated) i use a hair dryer to warm the areas with grease. i found that this improves action and speed tremendously. but there will always be a break-in period for flippers and speedsafe while the knife parts get worn in.

hope this helps

seriously over the last few days there have been too many set ups for TWSS. thanks for taking the first shot sv ;)

I just ordered another full sized cyclone and a mini from SMKW for $65 shipped. Unbelieveable deal that I couldn't pass up.

Still looking for the lost Black-Out.
