Hello, BladeForums! Long time lurker/reader, first time poster. I had a question for you knife folks...I have several nice EDC knives, but have been packing my Kershaw Leek DAM1660 this summer. I always keep a light coat of Rem oil on the blade but after using it to cut a few sticks for marshmallows a few nights ago, I noticed that there were some specks of what appeared to be surface rust on the blade the next morning when I got home to reapply the oil. I washed the blade with some dawn in the sink, thinking it may just be camping gunk. I dried it thoroughly and lightly coated it with oil, but noticed that the finish looked faded! I put it away and began my work week carrying my Spyderco Copilot. The next weekend I get my Leek out to carry and there was more rust specks on the blade and it had lightened up considerably. I would post pictures but it says it is disabled. What can I do? Do you folks think Kershaw would help me out? I've had the knife for years so I don't know any warranty would be applicable. Any advice appreciated and I'm glad to be on the forum!

THIS.

Rem Oil is a terrible protectant compared to many newer products. You could apply 20 coats of Rem Oil for one coat of Eezox, and Eezox will hands-down perform better. I have a damascus Chive that I do not use and have in a display case (which often encourages rust believe it or note) and I put some Eezox on it maybe two years ago. It's going to give me at least another year or two before I can start thinking about wiping it down again...sometime in the next year or three after the thought first goes through my head two years from now.

Even metal that is left outside when coated with Eezox will give months or years of continuous protection in 100% humidity. Given you will use the knife and the usage will occasionally remove it, now and then you will have to reapply, but you are going to get much, much, much better performance from Eezox.

Corrosion-X is another great performer and while not quite as insanely great as Eezox in protection, it is still excellent, it is non-toxic, and it actively removes rust which may be useful for your application.
