Just got one of the S35VN Dividends, and decided I wanted it to have naked aluminum scales. So, I put a tablespoon of lye in 12 ounces of water, and dropped the scales in. 12 minutes later, the scales were done. Just had to brush them clean in a bowl of water. After that I wet sanded with 2000 grit paper and then did some polishing with the Dremel.

Definitely. But they will no longer irritate my skin, which is dry and thin. I can polish the scales anytime; unfortunately, the skin is less cooperative.

You can burnish it with 0000 steel wool for a nice effect.

Thanks. I may give that a try once the scratches set in. The smooth scales feel really good, by the way. Would not work with all handle designs but the Dividend just locks into your hand. Great ergos on this knife.
