Hey all,
I was thinking of getting a JYD2 with the d2/13c26 composite blade and was wondering if there are any issues with these. Has anyone had or know of one these or a Leek thats come apart?
Thanks.

I've been beating on Kershaw knives for years. I have never had to send one back for warranty, or needed parts for repair. They offer the best warranty in the industry. No questions, no hassle. I don't think you'd be disappointed. And I own many variations of the 2 you mentioned.

I've had a pair of JYDII's in CPM-D2 as well as a pair in SG2/Ti for some time. Actually, a production and blemish variant of each. They, like my 7+ yr old Blurs, Scallion, Leeks, etc, have been dependable as can be. The only fault was with the abrasive skate tape on the Blurs - fuzzed a bunch of pockets before it wore down to an acceptable level. A change in later Blurs to a less aggressive tape was welcomed, for sure!!

As an aside - I am an anomaly amongst most blade users... I cut things with my knives. I leave prying, splitting, loosening screws, etc, to the appropriate tool... or an old fb.

I don't own that particular knife, but I have 3 Kershaws. The Customer service is on par with Benchmade's -- I've contacted Kershaw support twice, both proactively (the knives were not broken, but I wanted an extra torsion bar for 2 of the knives due to a several weeks long trip where I'd be quite rough with the knives) -- they sent me 2 of everything both times within 2 weeks of my emailing... Screws, clips, torsion bars, everything...

So, yeah - Kershaws are good quality, and if they do break for any reason, you'll have no problem getting it fixed promptly.

I also wondered about the composite blade on the Leek.

Nothing to worry about. Has anyone seen a composite blade knife broken at the seam? I never have. I have a very well used (sometimes abused) composite blade Leek that has held up great. I thinned the edge way down....10 degrees per side with a convex edge.

I've read that D2 can be fairly brittle. Any chipping problems with that thin of an edge?

I have never seen a chipped out CPMD2 blade on a Leek. Come to think of it, I have never personally had a chip on a D2 blade. I think D2's brittleness issues are highly overwrought.

I have a number of Kershaw CB knives, CPM D2 and ZDP189, and have never had any problems with chipping or durability. I use them at work on a regular basis with no problems. You really can't go wrong with Kershaw products. If you do have a problem they will promptly make it right.

my JYD 2 CB is fantastic, it has held up great and i can get it  sharp.

I agree. I can whilt a hair with my JYDII Composite. That is pure homerun. Its liner is as thick as most knives frame locks... I wish they would make something like Skyline with composite. However I am glad kershaw is bringing more composite blades out. I need to get Composite Leek... and Rake when it comes... Volt sometimes too.

I have never heard of a problem with the above knives. Any Kershaw is a good buy, as you get an almost custom fit and finish for a bargain of a price. Buy with confidence.

The composite blades are a steal. I have never had any issues with CPM D-2. I have beat on my JYD-II CB for around a year and it still locks up and cuts like day 1. Kershaw has the best warranty in the business.

I think I answered all of your questions. :)

Thanks for all the replies. I have a small JYD and love it so I thought I would go big and try the JYD2. I've been happy with all three of my Kershaws, I was just a little concerned about the two different steels separating but I guess my fears have no basis in reality. I'm gonna snap one of these up here pretty soon.

Thanks again.

I use my JYD II and Tyrade G10 combo blades as work knives. None finer.

These are great knives and NEVER, ever, have I heard of any kind of separation on any Kershaw welded blades.

You will love the edge you can get on that D2, as well as its ability to hold it.

Love the JYDs both big and small. Composite and not . My only complaint is the clip. It is tip down only and gawdy as hell. I would love them to change the clip to Tim's Pro style clip and make it tip up.

I also have a very used Composite Leek. No problems other than the torsion bar had to be replaced. Easy do it yourself job. Parts are free from Kershaw.

I just got one of these Leeks and have not had a chance to use it, but it looks awesome. It was not at all what I expected, it was perfect out of the box.

Hey if you dont mind minor cosmetic issues, check out kershawguys blems in the dealer for sale section. he has the composite jyd 2's for $45, and the Ti/sg2 for $79. I have one of the Ti/sg2 JYD 2's and its one of, if not my favorite knife.
