Kershaw DWO III disassembly

I have a Kershaw DWO III in which the locking mechanism no longer locks.
I'd like to disassemble it and see if there is something broken or if a good cleaning would fix it.

Can someone tell me what tool I need and describe how to remove this bolt?
(I have tried c-clip pliers, but they have too much give and I am unable to get it with them)

Thanks

I've seen those over at knifekits.com, but I've only seen them in kits. I don't know what part of the world you're in but if you google "Spanner bit" that should get you where you're needing to go

Yup, that's a "spanner" head.

I was able to find a few in a "security" bit set at the local hardware store, along with some other lesser-known screw types. Alternately, a few minutes of careful dremel-tool work on a flat blade will give you the tool you need.

I'm i Canada.... and added location info to profile. Thanks for the tip.

I only said that because in different parts of the world things have different names... elevator/lift... that and I didn't look at your profile lol.

What I should have said "on my part of the globe it's called blah blah blah etc etc etc" lol

Just to be clear Hobbyist, I did not mean that you should check my location, I meant that after you asked, I was reminded to add location information to my profile.

I dropped by the tool shop yesterday, and none of the stocked Spanner Tips would fit this bolt. I think they had #4, #6, #8, and #10. So I decided to try the dremel and slotted tip DIY method.

I made my custom spanners, and got the bolt out.

As you can see the springs are broken :-(

Any tips from here?

Well done on the home made spanner tips! A call to Kershaw customer service may be able to help with replacing those springs. They have always been really helpful in the past.

Good to know Gerald G. Thanks for taking the time and effort to update your experience. It is appreciated when someone updates their original thread with good, or bad news.
