Kershaw DWO?

Can anyone tell me the history behind the Kershaw DWO?
I heard somewhere they were named after a ranch hand who died.

Almost correct. He was a friend of Pete Kershaw, but he was not a game warden, he was a rancher, hunting guide, husband, father, and my best friend. He was killed on November 1, 1984 while guiding a group of elk hunters. I was likely the last one to talk to him before a hunter from outside of our hunting party made a tragic mistake and shot him off his horse.

Had just got back home to West Caldwell, NJ, after my 4th tour in Vietnam. Had my wife and son with me and my parents took us on a ride to some high point not too far from their house with a beautiful view. Turned out to be the first day of hunting, and all along the road to the top of the hill, were hunters waiting for the magic hour to arrive, and it looked to me that more than some were drinking. You could not have paid me to go into the woods that day! While at Fort Devens, MA some woman in Maine was hanging her wash on to on a line in her backyard, wearing white mittens. Some hunter who had already crossed two roads he was not supposed too cross, "Thought" her mittens where a white Tail deer, shot and killed her. Sorry that your friend lost his life so stupidly, what could have the hunter thought, he was shooting at a very tall Elk? John
