Alright i know this review may seem totally late, but, when the E.T. came out i was just starting to collect knives (with not the slightest notion of the unexpectedly high prices) and $140 for the only version i wanted seemed ridiculous. So then only four months ago or so i finally got my hands on one for just around $65 BRAND NEW (manventureoutpost.com). After unpacking the knife i began to have doubts about it's durability. So many moving parts and so many screws and nuts... something's gonna go wrong (nope). I have to say it is one of the most durable knives i have had so far! Nothing has broken and the finish on the blade (tungsten DLC) is very resistant to wear. Performance wise, it is just as great. A little lube every once in a while and it woks as well as it did on day one. Being that I was able to get this knife for such a good price i was not afraid to test it. Four solid months of hard E.D.C (and i work in a bike shop!) and it's still going strong. Until i can find a better E.D.C. knife, the E.T. will be my knife of choice!

Welcome, thanks for your review. I am thinking of getting one but am unsure about the lockup. How solid is the lockup when opened?

The lockup is essentially your grip on the knife. It is essentially impossible for the knife to close on you while holding it. you have to hold and operate one to truly understand what I mean, but trust me...this thing will NOT close on you until you want it to. One of the most successful adventurous designs I've ever seen.

you work in a bike shop eh?
No wonder you were geeking out on all the moving parts:p
Hey if a knife can handle bike shop work, then it's gotta be pretty good:thumbup:
I should know, :D:cool:

I've always wanted that knife. I used to work on a shop, I used my swisstool a lot in it. Opening up bikes to assemble them I would use the box cutters though, screw all those zip ties lol.

The ET is a rare combination of traits: a design that's truly original, excellent build quality with high-quality materials, and priced reasonably. The instruction video was a nice touch too - a feature that more manufacturers should consider, given the nearly-free price of CDs.

Exactly. As long as you have a grip on it, it won't close. It's impossible, unless there is a catastrophic failure of the mechanics (read: it would have to fall apart in your hand).

On the other hand, when you decide to close it, make sure you know where all your fingertips are...on closing, the thing is a little guillotine!

Another great design from Gavin Hawk!

So the locup is very good and the closing can be a bit tricky especially for the absent minded. Glad to read that it has a good lockup, it's essential to me.

Thanks guys.

I got to handle one in a store a couple days ago, and was very impressed! I must admit, I was opening it and closing it 2-handed for safety; I haven't seen any videos on how to use it easily 1-handed. But definitely watch your fingers on closing. I may buy one eventually. I was amazed at the relatively low price, considering its high build quality. Also, the blade is excellent, IMO.

Ditto!!! I now own stock in Johnson&Johnson. (Band-Aid)

I was in a passaround with one of these around when they came out. I still want one but the money usually goes to balis. The ET is on my list though. It's the closest thing to a double action auto that's legal where I live.
