Kershaw E.T.: plain versus "rainbow" blade

Hello,

Based on great info on this site, I have decided to purchase a Kershaw E.T. (External Toggle) knife, mostly for it's coolness factor. I am really curious to fool around with it and experiment with the one-handed opening techniques.

Island Tactical is selling them for $4 shipping until tonight, so I need to decide between the plain edge in regular steel versus rainbow finish. I am inclined to get the rainbow just because it adds to the novelty look of the knife, but does this make sense? Are there downsides, ie. weaker steel or harder to maintain?

I need to decide in the next four hourse so any quick feedback is very much appreciated!

Best,
Michael

I like the plain blade. This is just my own preference. I just don't care for the rainbow colored ones.

As far as strength I don't think there would be a difference.

I hope you don't mean that Island Tactical is selling the knife for $4. You mean they are selling them and the shipping is only $4 right?

mdarby,

FYI, there was only 100 total pieces of the Rainbow finished E.T.'s that were made, so they are a rare breed.

You might have already purchased. Anyway, if I add a word, rainbow finish would be fine. I do not think it lacks any strength compared to plain one. (As like Chive / Leek models) and it adds coolness / novelty factor greatly. I know a local shop has a stock of rainbow finish E.T., and am going to look.

Thomas, please, do not torture us with the word 'limited' or 'rare'. ;)
Thanks for fine knives you and others make.

Thomas,

I think Island Tactical had 69 in stock when I ordered on Friday. Did Kershaw really only make 100? Did Island Tactical get the majority?

Thanks,
Michael

Michael,

We did only make 100 pieces of the rainbow E.T. They were produced for one of our west coast distributors, and it sounds like from what you saw, that Island Tactical did get the majority.

Hope you enjoy your new E.T., thanks Michael.

Thomas,

Thanks. Your insight on the limited production tipped me over the edge, since I am really getting it for the fun and coolness factor. Limited production just strengthed the case!

Best,
Michael
