Today one of my friends showed me Kershaw E.T. I am very impressed: IMHO it is beautiful piece of engineering. I tried search, but was not able to find anything. Can owners share your experience? Egros? Also I am not familiar with 13C26 steel, how it compare with VG10, S30V or 440C? Is E,T, just a gadget or good EDC?
Any feedback will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

While I've never edc'd one, I have played with them alot at stores and gun shows. To me, the Kershaw ET isn't very practical; more of a novelty type knife thats fun to play with. The ergos never really felt right either. But of course, that is just my humble opinion.

i have one and it's a lot of fun to play with! it is one knife to be careful with.mine seems to hold it's edge very well. :)

Thank you guys. Does anybody else wants to add?
We used to have Kershaw mafia here. What's happened with all of them? Are there Kershaw forum anywhere?

I picked one up used on the forum a month or so ago. I love it! It makes a fun to play with EDC.
It does have a high gadget factor, but it can be a decent EDC. I have been playing with a one handed opening method using my pocket edge on the back.
It works and is fun to boot. I think it is a nice blade and well worth owning. The steel is not bad. It takes a good edge and is easy to get sharp.

13C26 takes a very fine edge easier than VG-10 and holds its 'fresh off the stones' edge longer (though VG-10 holds its 'this could use a touchup' edge a little longer). The ET's hollow-ground modified spear-point blade is excellent for like cutting needs. It's an excellent slicer. I also enjoy the deep-carry ambidextrous pocket clip, safety, toggle lock (so much fun to click open and closed), and carabiner/bottle-opener (use the safety if using the carabiner).

I'm a diehard Spyderco fan, but the ET1900 External Toggle is my favorite folding pocketknife (second favorite is the Spyderco Superhawk, of course  ).

I had one , just traded it :D

It is a cool knife but like the others said it may be more novelty than an actual user. It's not the sturdiest 'folding' knife in the world.
It is very unique though and well made by the best company making knives today. :)

I got an urban camo one in 2006 and it pretty much sat there until about a month ago. I then started playing around with it and realized, again, why I bought it in the first place. I really like the knife. It's truly one handed once you get the hang of it. I have four or five well practiced ways to open and close the knife one handed which has gone a long way towards making the knife a carry piece. I like the blade shape, it's very usable and super sharp. It's a gadget too which is always cool. I've been EDC'ing mine for the last few weeks clipped to a belt loop with the carabiner.

There's a ton of stuff about this knife on these forums going back to its release. Mostly positive. Just do a search.

Witness protection program?

13C26 takes a really sharp edge, but it does not hold it very long. I have an old Chive with that steel. It's a decent steel, but the edge holding is just not there. I believe the 13C26 was replaced with 14C28, much better edge holding. This steel is also easily sharpened and takes a great edge.

My friend used his as his climbing knife (until he lost it). The design is vastly superior to any of the purpose-built "climbing" knives I've used.

The knife easily clipped to his harness and he had no problems cutting any of the old webbing and rope we encountered. Climbing use is pretty abusive, and the knife was constantly being ground against rock and covered in dirt, snow, and ice. It got pretty scratched up, but worked flawlessly until the day it disappeared. The open design doesn't freeze up when coated in ice and it's easy to operate with heavy gloves. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it was heavier than my Boker Rescom.

p.s. The ET is also really fun to play with; but if you aren't careful, you will cut yourself fast.

a novelty...you think it's a toy?

i got a serrated version...one of my favorites to carry when camping and hiking the sierras...a solid performer; i've used it very hard...and it's ain't gonna fold back on your fingers...

I agree with that. 13C26 takes one of the finest edges I've ever been able to obtain. As far as edge holding goes, I'd put it a touch under VG-10. It's also very easy to sharpen, and it's not difficult to get rid of the burr.

Corrosion resistance must be pretty decent, too, since I got my JYD wet (pants were soaked) and continued to wear it IWB for 3-4 hours and saw no rusting, staining, or any other type of discoloration.

It's not a steel I'd want in a really expensive knife, but I wouldn't mind it for my EDC knives.

It's a fun design that works very well. Probably one of the stronger folding knives on the market, in order for the knife to fold while locked open one of the frame pins needs to sheer off.

People will try to bury it under the "gimmick" moniker but I'd ignore them. I EDC'd my version for quite a while and never had an accidental cut from closing. Learn the knife and it works very well.

I do wish they'd release a version without the carabiner, it's useless for my purposes and gets in the way during hard cutting.

That would be 420HC. ;)

Gentlemen,
Thank you. I appreciate feedback. It sound like this Kershaw will find place in my Spyderco home.
BTW, is it discontinued? I didn't find any info on Kershaw web site.
