I am going to get one of these but cant decide which one. The buck looks like it will sharpen up real quick and be razor sharp. I don't know much about kershaw fixed blades. I currently have a kershaw vapor and it is ok, was shaving sharp from the factory but after butchering several deer it has dulled and has taken a little while to get back to halfway sharp. Whichever knife I get will mostly be used for hunting - field dressing and butchering of deer and wild hogs. Thanks.

A buck would make a nice knife anytime, and A little eaiser to sharpen. Mabye get the buck first then the echo :D

If it's any help, I've had a Buck woodsman 102 since 1967. Its been a great little knife, has done anything you could reasonably ask of a 4 inch knife, not to mention some things unreasonable. It's a bit thin now, and it still makes for a good fixed blade scalple for pan fish and camp work.

Ok looks like most prefer the Buck knifes. Are there any other brands that fit into the same grouping as the kershaw echo and buck pathfinder. Basically a really sharp knife for around the same price range?

thanks.

bearwolf, I picked up a Kershaw Echo back in the fall of 2001. I've really liked it. The handle feels great and the blade slices threw veggies and meat really well. My father carried a Buck 105 Pathfinder to South America back in the 60's. I have said knife now and use it once in a while. Would use it more if it wasn't a family herlume. I like them both and use them both. Though I wish the Echo had a longer blade at times.

I recomend you try both and see how you like the feel of them. Or just buy both and have fun! :D
