I might've asked this before, but without the search function I'm sadly lost. What is the standard angle that Kershaw flat ground knives are sharpened at per side? I'm going to make some angled stands for some benchstones and need to know what angle to make them.

Two things:

-it's been mentioned on various sub forums here, that if you use Google's advanced search function, you can search this, and any website with relative efficiency. Go take a look, you'll find yourself using it for many websites.

- how many stands with set angles are you planning on making? I saw your question in another sub-forum already, so I'm unsure how many times you've asked the question, but I would answer it the same way- pick whatever angle you prefer, the steels used by Kershaw are more than good enough to hold any angle you desire.

Leek (this one is a bit of HG, not truly flat), Leek CB - 30.
JYD II, JYD II CB, Min Cyclone ZDP, MUDD, Tyrade - 40.
My measurement is not very precise. I guess 5 degrees step.
If you are looking for precise values, please post results here if found.

I like keeping the factory angle on my knives, just sort of a habit. And they're simple enough to make, so I'll probably end up making one for every angle grind I can find on the knives I have. Just need a couple of 2x4s and a number, and you can make one in about 10 minutes.

Btw, I had some free time today so I quickly made a stand out of some spare 2x4s I had laying around. It is at a 110 degree angle, so when the knife is held at 90 degrees, the edge will be sharpened at 20 degrees.

I made mine from plywood. I can use it two ways. Horizontal position seems more comfortable to me.

This is angle-helper. It is easier to hold knife exactly vertical or horizontal than trying to keep 20 degrees. I have problems sharpening free hand on flat stone, this little thing helps me.

Ah, I use a SharpMaker. It's the best thing I've found yet. I just re-profile edges. I guess Im either lazy or a simpleton.

I really like those homemade rigs guys. Too cool.
I had never thought of just making my own. I've gotten so used to doing everything freehand now.
I used the sharpmaker for I guess going on 10yrs and the last 2yrs have been freehand.
I think I might just build a stand like that.
It would give me an opportunity to buy better grades of stones to try out too. :D

I want to eventually make one like this, nice job. What size stone is that? The one I made is purely to test out how well it works, I'd like to make a refined one and put even an area with a leather strop.
