I ordered my husband the discontinued Kershaw Ener G2 1745 Lee Williams knife on eBay.

I know nothing about knives, but I knew he needed a new one. After researching, this one looked like something he would like and it also holds value since its discontinued.

To get to my point though, all the pictures I've seen have a manufacture date on the blade, but this one does not.
It reads:
1745
14C28N
Pat. Pending
Made in USA
Lee Williams Design

Is this how it's supposed to be or is something wrong with this one? I paid a pretty penny, I really want to make sure I have something legit.

I think at some point Kershaw stopped putting dates on their knives, at what point I dont know and when they stopped making the 1740. I have a 1740, its a nice feeling knife in the hands

I love the way this one feels. Heavy enough to feel substantial, but light enough for ease of use.

I messaged the seller, maybe he has some insight also.

I own both the small Ener g and the large Ener G 2. But my Ener G 2 is old enough to have the date. I know of a reputable dealer that has both sizes in stock. If you are not satisfied with the answer from the seller, let us know.

Pics would be great. It would help us tell if your knife is real.

It sounds legit to me. Pics would probably clinch it. innovative opening-mechanism on that

Kershaw did indeed stop putting date stamps on their knives, dont be suprised if you see some pics of that model with it and others without. From the description of the markings you have a legit Ener-g2. They are great knives, made in the USA, and have kept their value accordingly. COngrats on the purchase!

If you use the knife it isn't going to hold its value. Also, I don't recall ever seeing or hearing that this knife was cloned or otherwise.

How much is that dealer asking?

I'm mobile, but I'll try to add pics.

I have to be careful of the rules on deal spotting for non Bladeforums dealers. But it is in line with what you paid. Slightly more by the time you count shipping. Check your visitor messages.

I think ended links are OK but don't link to a live auction. I don't like buying knives on Ebay but that is personal preference. I like what I can see of that knife and I think it is probably real. Did it come in the same style of box as shown in the auction?

Now we will wait for a knowledgeable person to come along and blow my thoughts out of the water!

Yes everything came same as what was pictured. No paperwork though. Did any of yall receive paperwork of authenticity or anything?

Most of that paperwork can be and is forged. Cruising the Spyderco forum has taught me that. I would be checking the knife itself over and going from that rather than a piece of paper. Wish the Kershaw forum was still around. Those guys would know. HA! First time I have missed the Kershaw sub forum.

Well, he will appreciate having a new knife no matter what it is. He asked for a buck, and while they seemed like good knives, I never could find one that I was impressed with. Hope he likes this one! Thanks for all your help!

most kershaw paperwork I get is pretty generic and comes the same for all knives ive gotten

I really doubt it's fake. The box, grinds, markings, the slight water-jet marks around the frame, it all looks right to me. I have the same knife in hand and would be incredibly supprised if your's is fake. Nice gift for you husband by the way. Mine gets carried frequently. :)

Thanks! I know he's been wanting one and I was hoping I made the right decision. Looking at some of these knives people carry and I think I'll keep him off this site. I thought $50 was a bunch...I was fooled. =]

Too late! Sign him up and prepare to watch your bank account dwindle to nothing :D

The nearest Buck comparison is probably a Vantage Avid which would run about the same and is, imho, much inferior to the Kershaw save for the pocket-clip. I ground-off the point on my Kershaw 1740's pocket-clip, made a significant improvement. The knife you're giving him, being discontinued, is essentially a "limited edition" model  Worth the $$ and an excellent choice  He's lucky to have a woman of such discerning tastes.
