I'm looking for a heavy duty fixed blade for survival/camping and general use.
Yes I know there's a ZT 0100(which I would love to have) but it is out of my price range right now. :grumpy:
Then there's the blade material issue, stainless vs hi carbon blade (12c26 or 1095)
Is Kershaw planning to make a fixed blade in the near future ? I'm looking at the RAT C, (not the other company) RC4 or RC6 or a Gerber LMF type of knife. Their price range is about $100 to $130 street price, which is within my budget.

The true RAT (not the other company) knives are excellent. Kershaw makes a ZT0121, and it's reported to be first class. S30V DLC coated 4.25 inch blade, ranger green G-10 handle, 8" overall and just over 9 ounces. The blade shape closely resembles the ZT030X series. There's a video around here somewhere on the ZTs, including the fixed blades, and 1 is or was for sale in the marketplace here. Eventually I'll get a 0121, but the street price is a little north of $ 130. Looks too nice to pass up. Someone with actual experience with the 0121 will chime in soon, I'm sure.

How about the Kershaw 1029 Bear Hunter II?...Or the heavy-duty 1030 Deer Hunter?

The Roughneck is made in Japan of AUS6A.

I would personally get the ZT 0121.

Thanks for the input everybody.
I'll check some of the recommendations out.
I'd like to stay with made in USA knives though.

If you are looking for a good carbon steel fixed blade, how about the Ready Detachment Series by Ranger knives? All (from 4" to 9" blades) are under 130 and are made from 5160 (some may argue that 5160 is better than 1095). I only learned about them after I purchased my Becker BK9 otherwise I would have given them a try.

Eventually once you get some cash together you can look into the ZT-100. That CPM3V..........you just can't go much better.

Thanks for the info bro.
At first I thought they were made China, which makes them less desirable in my mind (I'm one of those politically concerned fanatics).
Japan however, is all top notch.

Can you give an approximate thickness?
