I was amazed to find a couple of these nib for $55 in a local hardware store. I still use the kershaw folding field 1050's as a general outdoor knife and especially for field dressing big game, mostly moose. Have acquired quite a few other hunting knives, almost all drop point. The folding field III has the same black phenolic and brass handle of the 1050 but a clip point hollow ground blade (I presume also aus 8). It is smaller than the 1050. I had seen one of these a long while ago but none since and have never seen them in any of the kershaw literature. Don't know how much I'll use it but it is certainly a pretty knife. The clip point reminds me of all those knives of kid hood that are now lying somewhere in the woods or at the bottoms of lakes and rivers.

Has anyone seen any of the Folding field III's recently? Anyone use one?

I have one in mint condition that I bought new many years ago. I would like to know more about this knife, but can't find any mention of it on the net except for here. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Hello Chad4444,
I know where your coming from. I purchased this knife in a Sydney gun shop back in 1985. The cost then was $104.00 (AUS). For curiousity I've been checking out Ebay for one the last few years but they seemed to have disappeared from the market.
All the best

These were only sold for a couple of years, starting in 1986. You are right in your assumption that the blade steel is AUS8. These are rare and highly collectible, in mint condition, with scabbard and box and with the proper description they could easily bring over $200 each. It is an amazing find, at a wonderful price. Suggested retail was $85 in 1986 , but they are very rare.

Thanks for the info. If you happen to see one sell, please let me know.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread guys but there was a design flaw when the 1055 was manufactured. The handle shape of the Folding Field series was designed to accommodate a drop-point blade perfectly with the blade closed. With the shorter 1055 Folding Field III a clip-point resulted in the tip sticking up past the scales a little from it's sweep. It's never bothered me but if this was in your pocket and you're feeling for change you could get knuckle poked.Best to carry in your back pocket lockback lever side against your wallet or of course a belt sheath. It's a great lockback by Kershaw and mine is still going strong after almost 30 years of use.I'd say if someone couldn't find one a Buck 112FG Ranger makes a nice alternative.Because the Folding Field III is only 2-1/2" in edge versus the 3" on the 112 Ranger. Also the Folding Field III's blade I wouldn't call hollow ground....more like a concave grind.Better for pull cuts and harder force on a blade's edge than a slicer like the Ranger.
