I had 2 kershaw grooves when they first came out but returned them as the two examples that I had (black tanto and silver drop point) didnt have a detent whatsoever. I dont know if this was a fluke or if it was just the design back then. My question is have they changed at all? I have always liked the style but im not a big fan of using wrist movment to assist a flipper.

Mine is decent enough, it's no 056x, but it works like dream...:D My sample was produced in Nov 07. How the newer ones compare I don't know.

I've got one of each that you mentioned, and they both have detents that work great. I've not had a ZT to compare it to, but no complaints here.

No complaints with mine and open so smooth you'd thing it was KVT.

My recurve drop point rivals KVT! My DLC tanto isn't worn in n will not open without wrist action.

Just got a rainbow one and it's as good as my worn in recuve but right out of the box. That's because the rainbow version is polished and glassy smooth all over. Except for the colors which I don't care for its the best of the bunch.

All mine have a ball detent. I don't think this flipper would work without it, nothing to keep the blade closed or build up pressure.

I think Jimmer told us regarding big flippers is to push the flipper tang through the handle. As opposed to flat Ali g the frame.

The Grooves do have detents. The setup is not as "hard" as on some knives, but they flip well, if you employ a little "trick.
Pre-load the flipper forward and down, against the stop pin. Then, reverse the pressure and snap down/back.

Give it a try- It takes some practice at first, butonce you master it, you can flip fast/hard without wrist action.

Hope it helps!

It's the same concept as snapping your fingers. Your muscles can't accelerate your finger fast enough to make the snapping noise on their own, but if you load tension on the finger and then re-direct it you get an explosive release of energy.
