Is this going to be the updated, new version of the "Chubby"...?

2 1/2" 8CR13MOV stainless blade, 3 5/8" closed, red Zytel handle with rubber inserts, locking liner, removable pocket clip in the shape of a combination wrench. China.

8CR13MOV SS. Can someone tell me what this is? American equivalent?

Spyderco uses it in their Byrd models, as well as the Tenacious (I think), and I believe it's comparable to AUS8.

Ahh looks like kershaw's trying to beat the persistence. I'm actually not a big fan of the persistence, and I like the MSRP on that kershaw, but I'm not crazy about the handle shape, or color. The blade shape looks promising, but if it's got a bead blast finish.. I'll pass.

The one I played with was satin.

If the fnf is anything like the Byrd stuff (I love my Meadowlark), I'll pick one up. I would prefer it to be a lockback tho like the Byrd.

Actually the Chubby has been out for a few years now. They have made runs for Snap-On and Craftsman, along with others. I haven't held the Half Ton yet, but the Chubby was satin finished. Stout little knife!

Looked great in camo, too!

Actually Jake, the 1440 Chubby (Work Knife) has been produced by us since 2001. The 1445 Half-Ton is a new model that is similar to the 1440 but is slightly larger. In an effort to make a more affordable piece (customer request) the 1445 was born.

As to the color, the 1440 is not a cataloged item, and has been made exclusively for Snap-On and Craftsman, both of whom incorporate Red/Black corporate colors.

Since there has been almost a decade of sales and history behind the 1440/1445, I'm unsure if the Persistence comparison is valid.

As you are aware, Spyderco and their designs have always been their own, and I like to think ours have been as well. We rarely, if ever, have taken a Spyderco or any manufacturers current item and built a competitive comparable equivalent. We are confident in our abilities, and our brand name more than stands on its own. Additionally, we continue to be more focused on being an industry leader, rather than following the pack.

That pocket clip/wrench is soo cool!

I have. Many times today. :D

The fit and finish are great. With the MSRP of $20 it is a heck of a deal.
I like this knife.
The red handles just jump out at you.
I would like to see different handle color choices in the future as well.

Thanks for clearing it up.
