Kershaw Junkyard Dog 2

im strongly considering the JYD2 as the newest knife in my kershaw dominated collection. it would be my work EDC where it would need to stand up for some major cardboard abuse. in your opinion, how long would the edge last at kershaw scary sharp levels with M-F box hell?

I like the JYDII ...I am not familar with the blade metal I tried to google but came up empty...Also what is the hardness of the metal?? RC58-59???
Your right about the pocket clip.

I love Kershaw knives BUT, gotta agree on the pocket clip comments.

They are nice but they do draw the eye!!!

In another post, I gave my JD II a great review except for the high profile pocket clip. I have now had the folder a little longer and feel the need to voice my growing negativity to the pocket clip.

The presence of this glaringy atrocious clip all but ruins and otherwise fabulous knife, once one starts wearing it in public.

The clip on the JD II needs to be changed to an inconspicuous shape and color. Or, perhaps a separate clip could be offered as an option by Kershaw.

I also participated in a passaround of this knife and aside from the " Klingon" clip found it to be a near perfect knife. I think it comes semi-serrated which is a plus for me.

the clip looks weird but it really fits the hand well - I was planning on changing it to a tip-up clip, which to me makes the most sense for a flipper knife, but now I don't think it would feel nearly as comfortable as the stock clip in its current placement.

STR does clip replacements, including very low ride ones. I have noticed the wire frame ones are almost completely ignored. They are also very comfortable in hand.

In general, for slicing cardboard, run the edge very acute, and very coarse and it will cut for a VERY long time. Even with steels like AUS-4A. See reviews for details.

Nice review- I may have to pick myself up one... especially if they'll get rid of the ugly handles and pocket clip.

So something like D2 that's ground as thin as most Kershaws are would probably be a god among cardboard cutters?

Yes, D2 works very well for that, get the edge under 0.010"/10 degrees and finish it on x-coarse DMT or similar, will slice cardboard for a LONG time. If you are doing push cuts, M2 is better and highly polished. But if you can slice, then do so, edge retention is much higher.

enjoyed your review on the JYD2 tyr_shadowblade!
I enjoy my JYD2, but unfortunately have to agree about the pocket clip (I know it's in keeping with Tim's original design)....but perhaps...*gulp*....the low profile clip of the Groove could be mated to the JYD2....

I've liked the looks of this knife, wanted to pick one up from New Graham but seems they are out of stock right now :(
Some time I'll get a chance to get one, thanks for the review!
