I have a kershaw skyline. Love everything about it. I have decided to get a similar knife thats bigger and am thinking about the junkyard dog 2. I dont like assisted knifes i like flippers . Thoughts and suggestions please.

Also i was thinking about the buck 110 for a skinning knife I. Would i be able to skin a deer with the junkyard dog just wondering?

The JYD II is an excellent knife and should serve you quite well for your intended usage. I love the blade profile of the knife personally seeing as it is large and wide with a great deal of belly but not overly thick by any means. All in all a grand knife for almost anything. I've got a bit of preference towards the composite blade with the D2 cutting edge however versus the 13C26 Sandvik (the newer ones have 14C28N) with is a more than serviceable steel by most all means.

Would it be practical to skin a deer with the junkyard dog 2? It has the same size blade as a buck 110

I use one all the time! It's my go-to hard use folding knife. I'm sure you could easily skin a deer with one.

Its definitely worth a try. Im not sure its going to be my edc knife but im sure i will get some use out of it

Good luck. The blade's got lots of belly so that should do well with skinning. IMO larger blades like the JYD II flip much better than the smaller flippers like the Skyline, it seems to me like when the blade has some more mass it seems to flick better. Noticed the same with my larger Ripple vs: the smaller.

Op you cant go wrong with a Jyd2 Its a great knife, Ive had mine for a long time and love it.

Rocled We need some details on that custom JYD, Like where did you get those scales, And give me a full run threw of what you have done to that puppy I see some polished hardware.

Hello, These scales are blue/silver twill. They have a high polish on them for best appearance. The hardware was upgraded to stainless, except the pivot because I couldn't find a direct replacement. The pocket clip is going to get slimmed down, that's next on the list. I made these myself, wanted something that stood out more. This knife is one I put into work rotation. Yes, sometimes the simpler the better, but it's nice to have something flashy sometimes. My "simple" knives indeed see more use, but this one always draws attention. The only place I ever see blue/silver twill is on expensive custom's, and I wanted to give it a shot.

I skinned 2 deer with my first one last year. Since then i have purchased 2 more. I love them. I have one Composite that i'm keeping dead mint, one standard that i have in a GO bag, and another CP that is my EDC blade.

I personally think it's perfect as a backup skinner.

I'm a newcomer to the Dog, but my understanding is that they all have the copper brazing between the D2 and the 14C28N. The older blades had what I think of as the "jigsaw piece" round pattern, and the newer ones have what is frequently described as the "shark's teeth." The color difference between the D2 and 14C28N is much more pronounced on the older blades.

The color difference isn't really a big deal its just the d2 tool steel isn't really stainless so it takes a good patina. I would imagine the newer sawblade style ones will look the same eventually or you could help it with some ferric acid.

I aready have the skyline . Im not a knife collector i just want a good edck or a good back up do you think i should just get a 6 inch fix blade if so what should i get
