I recently asked for advice along the same lines. I was deciding between the JYDII and the Tyrade G10 composites. In the end I bought both. If I had to pick between the two - I would go with the JYDII composite. I like the fact it is lighter, better ergo's for me, does food prep slightly better and it is not an AO knife. It also cost me about $12 less and comes with a padded storage case.

It's a lot of knife for around 70 dollars. Flips open very smooth and the clip isn't nearly as uncomfortable as it looks like it would be when gripping the handle.

How do you like the clip?

The clips on a number of Kershaws I have an interest in (and bought) just are too "pimp", gawdy, and not that good in use. IMHO of course.

I hve an Sg2 and the pocket clip rides right along to lockbar cutout so it shreds pockets by pushing the sharp end of the lockbar into my pocket before the clip slides over the lip of my pocket.
It probably isn't an issue on the G10 version, but it could be something to consider if you wear expensive clothing and don't want to to ruin the lip of the pockets.
Hope that made sense. I love the knife, I like how the clip functions, and it looks pretty cool IMO, but it's a shredder on the Sg2.

The clip is nice and secure when clipped in pocket and it's contoured nicely so it doesn't "bite" your hand. It isn't exactly low-key if you are worried about the knife being noticed.

It is not an issue at all on the G10 versions, as the scales completely cover the lockbar - turning it into a liner lock, not a framelock.

The only complaint I have with the clip is that it can't be repositioned. Other than that it's secure, and comfortable enough that I don't even notice it when in use.

I know it's a liner, but depending how tight it is I wasn't sure if the texturing on the G10 would eat pockets. I've had overly tight clips combined with G10 that have shredded pockets also.

Followup: I've owned a JYDII since May of '07, carried one every single day since that time, and still I had to pull it out just to figure out why I couldn't remember what the clip FEELS like. That's how unobtrusive it is...

Holding it in my hand (I'm a righty), the clip turns out to be brilliantly contoured. It is "S" shaped in profile, and the curves perfectly match the palm of the hand holding it - the concave portion cradling the base of the middle finger, and the convex part filling in the slight gap under the forefinger. The swept-up end fits naturally between the middle and ring fingers. If I pick it up I literally can't tell it's there, so well does it match my hand.

This is in sharp contrast to the Spydercos and Benchmades I own. It shows once again the genius of the designer, Tim Galyean, and has lead me to a new appreciation of one of my very favorite knives. Kudos to Kershaw for not trying to "brand" the knife with a particular clip design, or by plastering their logo on it.

(I still wish it was reversible...)

The neatest looking composite blade JYDII was a limited production seemingly only available from Kershaw's blemish/seconds stash. It replaced the black G10 scales (SS liners) with the original fuselage look of the JYD - with small holes for rivets - in grey G10. Pretty neat - but, the seller mislead me - it's a blem - not 'new stock' - as signified by the 'X X X X' on the blade. No warrantee. Mine was as near perfect - close, that is - as the standard black G10 one my wife bought me for Christmas. Of course, that CPM D2 is real sharp - and sturdy. Expect $50-$70 through the mail.

Of course, the ultimate is the SG-2/Ti version at twice or more the price. For your moola, you get a same sized JYDII framelock of Ti with that super sharp SG-2 blade laminated. Wow, what a sharp knife - my sharpest new knife EVER! Below you'll see it, note more fuselage detail, with a new BM Rukus - that's a big folder!

Clips... I don't like no stink'in clips. I have a drawer full... I carry biggie knives in my back pocket. At least these all came off easily - and the holes arent obnoxiously apparent. I do carry a Surefire E1b 'Backup' flashlight 'clipped' to my weak side front pants pocket - and something 'loud' in the strong side for protection.

Stainz

PS Fantastic knives - great ergonomics. The CPM-D2 model CBs are fine for EDC - haven't managed to chip or dull either since last Dec - and they've attacked a lot of stuff - up to large cardboard boxes. Easy to open - and close - single-handed.

It's an absolutely awesome knife, one of the best in its price range for sure. Amazing ergonomics IMO, it is VERY comfortable. Awesome flipper, locks up totally solid, and I find it quite easy to put a wicked edge on the D2.

Got my son one for Christmas last year and had STR make a foldover, deep-carry clip for it. It is an awesome knife aor the price! The clip is great also because, like orthogonal1, I do not like the big paddle clip as it causes the knife to sit too high in the pocket and draws attention to the fact you have a knife in your pocket. Btw, my son loves the knife and it gets equal time with his ZT0200, also gave that one at Christmas, as his edc knife.:D:thumbup:

robust and opens like on ball bearings.this is'nta real large one but fairly heavy, if son is over 5'8" he can pack it easy.one thing is sure he ca'nt break it.

I've been using mine at work for the past year. The lock is still solid, and after all the scraping and occasional tin cutting there's virtually no edge damage (just rolling and denting).
It's a good solid knife, and has some of the best working steel you'll find for the money.
FWIW the limited run G-10 Tyrade uses the same steel and lock, but has a thicker blade. I'd look into getting one of those first (unless you don't like re-curves or AO knives).

if anyone's looking, I'm trying to trade mine, which is as-new, for something else. I have an ad in the WTT section here on BF, or email me. looking for Benchmade griptilians or Spydercos

It's a good knife for the money, however the blade retention sucks. I can easily, with the pivot cranked down, do a wrist flick without using the flipper and get the blade to pop out. The pocket clip is one of the dorkiest looking clips I own on a knife, but it's functional and isn't an ergo killer (even though you can tell it's there).

Overall it's a great knife especially when compared to similar priced options out there.
